Bringing a Gun on Vacation

Gonna be taking a 9-day vacation to Hawaii in the late summer.
I know they don't like howlies over there and I've always operated on the principle of "I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it."
That being said, anything I should know about flying with one and more specifically, any laws of Hawaii I should know about.
Obviously unloaded and placed in my stowaway luggage, but do I need to declare it to TSA when I check in?

You don't want to bring it to Hawaii, baw. They have some pretty strict gun laws there... I know it's against the law to carry a loaded weapon in a vehicle.
You really want to spend a part of your vacation waiting around at the police station?

it will need to be in an approved lockable case and it will need to declared when you check your bag.
but first you need to check the laws to see if it is even legal for you to a have a pistol on your person while in Hawaii...

I would check the airline you are traveling for specific rules on traveling with gun. They differ.

Check Hawaii gun laws.
Some states have weird laws. For instance, in Alabama when driving with a handgun the magazine must be in different compartment of vehicle seperate from the gun.

Also, apparently you're not allowed to carry around a loaded weapon and your unloaded pistol/revolver has to be in a case.
Why bother with all the bullshite of bringing a gun if you're gonna have to leave it unloaded and cased? It's not going to help you out in an emergency.

Make sure it's unloaded and it should be fine in a carry-on. Don't bring it up, but if they ask then you should mention it. And I can't stress enough, make sure it's UNLOADED all the way. Not one bullet, not two bullets, ZERO bullets in it.

We're renting a house on Kaui (sop?), so I didn't think we'd be in a super safe tourist area.
Apparently they pretty much leave you alone as long as you're not hitting on the local girls.

Just checked, HI doesn't recognize LA CCL anyway.
Looks like HI is not gun friendly at all. You might wanna reconsider even taking it, unless you are up for a lotta hassle. You won't be able to have it with you anywhere except maybe the hotel room where you are staying, and only if you register it when you get there.

I've lived her almost my whole life and I've never heard that. I always travel with my pistol actually on me.
