She reported the bully was bullying her older boy a whole month before and nothing was done.

The police and school board now say they are still investigating.

The hurt kids family has a donation page for his med bills. Bully's parents are going to kill him when they have to foot a quarter million dollar hospital bill.

So, what you're say is that you start a lot of fights? Got it.

Probably since those with Asperger's are notoriously unable to handle social situations. I would guess he said some shite to these kids for the umpteenth time and they went off on him. No excuse and this is fricking terrible, but I know some Asperger's folks and the shite that comes out of their mouths sometimes makes me want to punch them.

Well, kid has Asperger's. He says stupid shite. It happens. He can't control it.

You can control your reaction. Verbal abuse does not justify physical violence.

quote:

It's the nature of the syndrome. Kids with A.S. don't present autism as clearly. Instead, they appear as stand-offish, mean, rude, weird, and a whole host of other "bad" social qualities. Asperger's sucks, because it may take a long time before even the parents realize what's wrong with the kid. In fact, I would venture to guess that this "bully" (read: psychopath) had and has no idea what the hell Asperger's is. Blake was just a weird kid and the "bully" was having a bad day.

Asperger's kid has a bad attitude, I get it. Bully had a bad day? Tough shite. Bad day doesn't mean you get to beat a child until he's leaking spinal fluid and his skull is fractured. Besides, if you read the article:

quote:

The serious injuries came at the hands of an eighth grader who had allegedly been bullying Blake's older brother for some time now, according to Blake's mother. The incident happened in the cafeteria.

Blake, who has Asperger's syndrome, ADHD and an anxiety disorder, tried to sit at a table and was confronted by another boy. That's when he says the boy who had been bullying his older brother confronted him.

"All he remembers is that his head was being slammed against the lunchroom table and he blacked out," Kitchen said.

Kitchen says surveillance cameras captured the rest.

"He was punched in the face, picked up and body slammed and kicked after he'd already blacked out," the mother said as she fought back tears. “He doesn't remember any of that. I guess that was a blessing. He was unconscious and doesn't remember being violently attacked. It's sad he didn't stop."

Kitchen said what makes this worse is that she'd tried to warn the school of the student in question a month ago with a letter. She says nothing was done.

"This child is a liability to this school, not just for my son, but all children," she said.

For now, Kitchen's kids are both out of school. She says they won't be back unless and until she hears the accused bully is gone for good.

My guess is the assaulter will be dead or in prison within ten years anyway, but this is 100% on the attacker.

I hate to say this but kids with that syndrome will at times say things that are VERY inappropriate or do things that are.

No excuse for the beating, so don't take it that way. Just playing devil's advocate and curious as to what he said or did before the beating started.

edit. I just read the OP and not the comments here. Am reading through now and didn't knkow the cameras captured it all and she had reported him for bullying.

Again: what does Aspergers have to do with this?

The bully had been picking on the brother all month, and decided to extend treatment to family.

Eta: however, what if bully said something to the kid and the kid hit him first?

Right now we are going by what mother had claimed. What if video shows different story?

I could never hurt another kid, but I would confront the parents and if one smart arse remark or indignant denial came out it would probably do something I regret within the next 24 hours.

It's easy to say what you would do, but doing the right thing is so much harder which means not condoning violence from violence to another child. Parents however I have zero tolerance for their actions.

ETA: they dropped Aspergers from the DSM, it's not even a real disease

Overbroad generalization. One of my daughter's classmates has Asperger's and is just completely lacking in social skills. He has no conception of personal space and no filter on his mouth. However, the kid just comes across as weird and nerdy. All of the other kids in the class know how he is and just deal with it.

I have noted that these kids do not handle sports very well. It's almost like they can't grasp the concept of competition.

You can pick out an AS kid in a room of thirty after 10 minutes.

It's real.

You are a fricking moron. A child with Asperger's is now classified as AU under DSM V.

kids that run their mouth and have no filter over what they say? sounds like a discipline problem

No. Most don't say anything at all.

They are weird and awkward. In a room of screaming kids they will be holding their ears and crying.

Nope. They don't show add traits. They are focused. They have zero social skills and are paranoid and very sensitive.

I'm not sure but I don't think there is a medicine for it. Usually their grades are good.
