I was wrong by a year on when the interview about the new evidence was, but he was claiming that the director held on the the new evidence for 5 years, which isn't true.

No, he's in the clear...they also counseled with their attorneys on the whole procedure.

No. The police didn't do enough investigating. That's on them. Plus it was speculative at best when they initially found the letter that looked like his handwriting. Their whole idea was to get him to react on camera before the cops got involved and all those constitutional protections would have been triggered. Frick those stupid cops. Those filmmakers deserve a medal.

Read the link posted above and read Charles Bagli New York Times regarding it. He was interviewed twice. Once in 2010 and once in 2012. Not after his arrest in 2013 as the show stated and Jalienki has noted this.
They did sit on evidence for 3 years. They claim to have not found the audio of him in the bathroom until recently. Whether that's true or not is debatable so inadvertently or not they were sitting on it.
And I believe they knew they had it and did it for ratings. Apparently they knew he had a habit of talking to himself and keeping the mic on which I would assume is why they kept a hot mic on him when he went to the bathroom. No way these people didn't know this.
