I got $225 for it. It really wasn't that nice. Gears were fricked, tires were flat from dabigfella riding it and the brakes were worn out from trying to slow dabigfella down to an acceptable speed.

My next door neighbor opiate addict stole two of my bikes. One was very nice. He's in jail for a long time on other things. I let it go. Blood from a stone and all.

Go to him with the manager and tell him you have seen the video.
You want your bike back and $20 for a new lock.
If he hands you the $20 and your bike, you are done.

He's a thief. He'll just steal someone else's bike if he doesn't get arrested for stealing yours. I'd beat the brakes off of him and say he attacked me when I asked for my bike back

some of these replies will have you going to jail instead of the kid.

Why are people in this thread still calling him a kid

you should just let him keep the bike. It's obvious the kid is going through a rough patch right now. At least he's working. He just needs transportation so do a good deed and let him have it.

Anyways we know from the manager of the business that he's a 21 year old kid but the manager doesn't know how he's gonna get my bike back

The manager could just tell the kid that you have him on tape and if he doesn't give it back he is going to get arrested. How could he not have figured that out?

so would you call the police and file a report or would you wait and see if the manager can do something???

I would have the manager try to get it back and give him 48 hours before calling the cops and even if I did get it back I would call the cops after. The kid needs to be arrested but it would be nice if you could get the bike back from the manager first because the kid may try to hide it or sell it if he knows the cops are looking for him.

If you don't get him arrested he is going to keep stealing from other people and a lot of it will be your fault since you didn't get him arrested when you had the chance.

why not?

If you scare him straight early (I guess 21 could be "early") it could prevent him from future crimes. If you just say "aw golly gee shucks pal can I have my bike back please whaddaya say?" it's jsut going to show him that he can do whatever the frick he wants with no repercussions.

You should call the cops and the manager should fire him. Boom, we just did society a solid at some point down the road.

Please let us know what happens. And the term "kid" is relative. 21 is a kid to me.

the cop told me it is a felony and would be on his record permanently bc of the value of the bike combined with breaking and entering onto the property since it was an hour after he clocked out from work and had no business on site. The manager had the owner call me and he said to give him a day or two to get it back. He said it would be done. If not the cop said to just file the report monday morning but it would certainly go on the guys permanent record. If the guy was 30 I'd do it in a heartbeat but being 21 and remembering dumb shite my friends and I did, obviously not this bad, I wanna try to not ruin his life forever if I can.

Then why did you have it just locked up outside at your condo...and not stored inside your condo?

Many bike locks are more easy to cut through than you think. Just have to have someone that really wants that bike that also happens to own the proper tools that will cut a bike lock.
