Do you know anything about him, besides he stole your bike ?

How about the manager ? Well, you'd want to be sure it was fairly safe to go to his place in person and ask for the bike...

but you don't want the prick to pull a gun on youor something crazy.

bring a cpl friends if you don't want this knucklehead arrested..and don't mention the video..he'll go nuts trying to figure it out.

besides, the camera may catch him again if you don't spill the beans

the bike was locked up in our garage, not outside. In the garage there is no in or out until you go through security. The only outside entrance is a side door where only commercial spaces have a fob in to throw away their trash in our dumpsters. They've never had a single item stolen from the garage the manager said, and this wasn't some homeless guy who just walked in, the security wouldnt even have looked twice bc the kid was an employee of the restaurant downstairs and was was wearing his shirt thats why it was so easy to identify him.

I've dealt with something similar before. frick chances, frick being nice. He's only going to play games with you, stall and delay.

The bike is gone. You should have called the cops the moment you cracked the case.

Thanks for clarifying that.

You are trying to be a decent person...but your property was stolen and you know who did it. If you are feeling generous...then approach the kid and tell him he either needs to hand over the bike or the cops are being called. That there is enough evidence that clearly shows he stole it.

I would not spill the beans, the thief if he's not repentant, will just figure out another way...if he's gonna give a chance, he needs to test him too and never tell him how.

Why not? He's a thief.

You could always greenmail him. One of those "I won't go to the cops if you give me $500 and my bike back". I've done it before and it worked.

What would I do? I certainly wouldn't consider this a dilemma. I'd have called the cops and showed them the footage and given them his address yesterday. What is wrong with you? Enabling and coddling bad behavior is why shite like this happens so regularly.

I'd call the cops. Kids are idiots, and any kid stupid enough to steal like that is stupid enough to escalate the situation beyond control.

Call the cops. They'll get the bike back and ask you if you want to press charges. Say no. Hopefully it scares him straight.

Was it a beach cruiser and was his name Debo? If so, don't try to get get it back yourself. I've seen how that ends

Does he work at a bistro type restaurant or is it more like a bar and grill? The answer matters as to your actions.

You should have given him your projector TV instead of your bike.

If you don't hurry up and call the cops, that bike could end up in the basement of the Alamo very soon!!!

wow that's quite a leap from petty theft to murder.

Bundy has a pile of bikes, some from over 20 years prior. It's a gateway crime

...because taking stolen property back to the area it was stolen from is a smart thing to do...?

Personally, depending on the size of his knuckles, I would fight his arse. But I'm trashy like that

Give the manager a heads up that if the bike isn't returned, I'm calling the cops. If the manager gives two shites, he'd give the kid a heads up. If not, then that's that.

Kid obviously doesn't care about his record if he took the bike; he's old enough to know better.

This is probably what I would do. Cops getting involved is always a hairy thing.

When I was a teenager, someone got into the shop in our backyard and stole my mom's back. A few days later she saw a dude pass by the house riding, what appeared to be her bike. She got in my dad's truck, followed him to some store or whatever he went.. She waited for him to go inside and she went take the bike. She said she was pretty sure it was her bike. Called the cops and told them they don't have to worry about looking for her bike because she went steal it back.
