I like French Press's food but the service has been so shitty on a consistent basis that I've pretty much just avoided it.

I usually expect a wait before seating. Get a bloody mary and hang out. Haven't had any problem with the servers once I sit, though.

No as in haven't been. Menu looks a bit all over the place but happy to see the hipster menu formatting has infiltrated my old hood.

Had the opposite my last couple of trips, quick wait time but bad service at the table.

You know what I miss? Acadiana Grilled Cheese Co.

Before that closed I was tearing it up on a weekly basis

Lafayette could use more hipsteriziation

Downtown has so much more potential than it's showing.

Yeah their menu changes depending on the day and time of day. They have a good burger on thursdays, good fried chicken on wednesdays. As far as every day, their beef tongue sandwich, porchetta on sourdough, and firebird sandwiches are really good, gouda mac is legit. They make a great Ramen too.

They had an event a few months back where they had chefs from all over the city go there at night (like 10 oclock) and make different types of Ramen for people to try. It was awesome.

They're currently doing a kickstarter to buy a brick oven for pizza

I was talking about that the other day, that place was very good. Didn't they have some shady shite happen to it?

I think one of the investors suddenly wanted his money back midway through or something weird like that. I'm really surprised they weren't able to get a food truck going in the year that it's been closed.

I tried to convince them to do a fried pork tenderloin grilled cheese one time when I went. I'm pissed off that it never materialized

Pols are slowing it down.

I am indirectly involved in a big initiative right now, and my "team" hates the pols to the point now that they regret dealing with the city.

All of these businesses are being looked at like a golden goose now, which isn't surprising. Just wait until our Governor wants a piece after the local pols shoot their load all over the goose after screwing it.

I feel like downtown has gotten much better lately. More festivals, good restaurants, but yeah it could do better.

Downtown needs at the bare minimum these two things: improved housing options (not just a few nice lofts, but semi-gentrified neighborhoods), and a grocery store.

It has to have those to be a viable anchor for the community. Rouses on Congress. Albertsons on South College, Wal Mart on the thruway are not near close enough. The market for grocery stores in Lafayette is probably close to being saturated, so who would want to invest in downtown? I'd like to see one of them do a smaller satellite store, in conjunction with a housing and business development initiative.

It's a very complicated issue, to revitalize a partially blighted area of town.

Grocery store would be huge

Nightlife that isn't catered to college kids, small town trash, and minorities would be huge as well. There aren't exactly many good bar options in downtown Lafayette if you're over the age of 21 and not a truck nuts baw.

I live on the south side, and as you know, there has been an enormous amount of development in this area in terms of dining options to prevent me from even thinking about going all the way downtown again.

We love sushi from Tsunami, but instead of going there, we order that shite delivery from Takeout Express.

Champagne's in the Oil Center serves a lot of that area as well.
