hotels.com is pretty good.

I use hotels.com and never had a bad experience and the free night has come in handy if you use them often

Direct on hotel site and have them match plus discount if there's a lower rate on a third party site.

If you travel a lot it's best to pick a brand and earn the points. Priority club and Holiday Inn has been good to me. If you don't care about brand and just want price Hotwire is pretty hard to beat.

I've had good luck with Kayak.

I can usually beat Hotwire prices once the 25% discount from the hotel is made.

This. I always go with Hilton. Get free upgrades whenever a better room is available (Gold level). Stayed in a 2-room suite last night, paid for a normal room. Been upgraded to Presidential Suite a couple times.

I use TripAdvisor because they have a lot of reviews and similar prices to the rest

You guys do realize third party websites are a scam. Always book on the official website. You get your points, rewards, and better accommodations. Third party websites pull their prices from the GDS. They can't give you better deals than what the hotel is giving you through the official website.

I use Priceline express deal or name your own price. I get hotels half price. Nola 4 star $80 most of the time.

Do this if you stay over 15 nights or so a year and I agree that IHG is the best as far as earning free nights and the occasional upgrade. If you always want an upgrade go with Hilton or Marriott but it takes forever to get enough points for free nights.
