Looking to get my father in law a new pellet smoker. Never owned one myself so not sure where to start, i've seen pit boss makes a weber sized one for around $500. I think this would be a good size but wondering if there are any other comparable options for a similar/ cheaper price. TIA

pit boss good. plenty of options in this market. Just go grab him one based on size you think he'll need/want.

It would be really hard to find a decent pellet smoker of any decent size for less than $500.

You’ve busted a nut in his daughter, why are you trying to cut out $100 or $200?

Not necessarily trying to cheap out a few hundred dollars, just trying to get a feel for my options and what is the best bang for buck. Thanks to the person who suggested z grills

Let the man pick his own. Nothing worse than cooking on equipment someone else bought you that you hate.

I don't own a pellet smoker but, I am seriously considering the Camp Chef XXL Pro Vertical Smoker YouTube Lots of versatility in one unit.

Got this off a recommendation from here. Works great. Not overly huge, but can do a brisket, or multiple whole chickens as a smoker. You can jack the heat up to over 600 and sear things or cook like a traditional charcoal grill. I even got a steel griddle that once seasoned works great for smash burgers, etc.

Only issue I had was that they tried to ship it cheaply and I had to fight with them three different times to ship me a new grill because each one arrived damaged. I finally asked them to ship it like they ship their larger grills and it arrived unscathed.

You can get a Masterbuilt for just over $230 from Academy and other retailers.

It's not pellet though. You have to load up wood chips regularly and don't have the luxury of an autoloader. Up to you how you want to proceed.

They have a new version of the 380 that gets to 1000F. Crazy for a smaller grill like that. I have the RT-700 and it's been awesome. Never had an issue with it (I've had mine for 3+ years now and use it multiple times a week during the spring/summer/fall.

Lowes has a pit boss 850 for $599. I got this for Christmas and it does all I need and seems to be well built. Also can sear/grill like a normal grill. Does not come with ot baller sticker for your truck window, though.
