LSU is nearly $6k per semester... that's before you eat, before you pay rent, before the electric bill, etc.

For a "state school" LSU is pretty high. If anywhere else would work out for me I'd be going elsewhere.

Nope. Having a state school in your backyard keeps ULL and LA Tech in business.

Obviously no public LA schools are Ivy's but ULL has comparable if not better PETE,CE,Computer Science and Nursing programs than anyone in the area except UT and TA&M

Also on another note, I had no idea until recently how badly Louisiana treated its professors. One of our most distinguished professors(taught at Stanford etc.) told us that Louisiana is one of if not the worst state to teach due to its unfriendly academia environment.

Not sure about Tech....but the kids in my class that went to ULL didn't get TOPs or admission into LSU. They were not the brightest bulbs.

Which is pretty bad because LSU's admission isn't overly selective.

The "Above Average" kids went to LSU (1 went to Tech). The "Above Average" kids with some money went out of state.

The Louisiana "brain drain". There's numerous articles about it.

Who doesn't qualify to go to LSU?

3.0 high school GPA and 22 ACT? Those are some Harvard/Stanford requirements right there, haha.

I'm still greatful to LSU everyday for allowing me to get a first class education in EE. Such an awesome place!!

Those are minimum to apply. Not what you need for acceptance.

Not trying to paint LSU as a high brow university but the days of needing a pulse to get admitted are gone. One out of every four applicants gets denied.

Publically released documents.

Of valid applications received last year, 76% were accepted.

Maybe half of those actually enroll.

82% of LSU Freshmen were in the top half of their HS class.

A Quarter in the top 10%

Its not "get TOPS, get in LSU" like some seem to think. It might not be a super tight competition to get in, but don't think there isn't one at all.

Admission standards at all La schools are low. Quality of education at LSU is ok in some areas but outside of some engineering programs not close to our neighbors to the west.

Well when education standards are low, what do you expect? This state does not put education first. Add to that that many of our best and brightest leave the state. Some of the best educators I knew left to go to Texas because of low teacher pay and lack of support for the schools.

That's one of the reasons I have no intention of leaving this state. It may be foolish, but we lose too many good people. If the good people would quit leaving, maybe things would get better.

Fun tidbit about LSU: when I decided to go to McNeese over LSU, the requirements to entire the McNeese honors college were higher than that of the LSU equivalent. I don't remember exactly what the GPA req's were, but I think the ACT requirement was a point higher at McNeese.

The point of all of this is just because LSU is the "flagship", it doesn't mean it's always better or even the right fit for every student.

The worst thing are the tools that either couldn't get into LSU or had to transfer to another school and still wore LSU. Oh, what's that? A symbol of your party days and ultimate failure?

That's actually pretty cheap. Most state schools are hovering right around $20K per year in state. The University of Washington and WSU are over $20K in-state where I'm at in Seattle.

When I graduated LSU almost 3 years ago is was $8,600 per year and that's one hellava bargain.
