This so-called "tram" is never going to happen. Does anybody know who originally came up with this crazy pipe dream?
If it were to happen, it would be crunk.
quote:
The Metro Council agreed Wednesday to support a $10 million bond - to be repaid with parking fees - as initial funding for the envisioned tram connecting downtown and LSU.
...
The city-parish will repay the $10 million bond from downtown parking fees. Those funds will be part of the $34 million the city-parish would expect to pay for the $170 million tram. The additional city-parish funds could come from proposed taxes in a possible economic development district around the tram route.
The city-parish will apply for federal funds for the rest of the money, but warned that they needed a pledge of city-parish funding to be competitive at the federal level.

They need to level that fricking ghetto between downtown and LSU first.

You know Gary Chambers gonna say something about this.....

I'm disappointed in several black metro council members tonight. They continue to vote for projects that don't help us address the concerns of north Baton Rouge and will lead to the gentrification of Old South Baton Rouge. The approval of $10 million for the "Tram" in downtown Baton Rouge is shameful. I personally reached out to 7 metro council members. The white council members explained their positions and I understand that, but for the black council members we keep supporting projects that won't help our communities. It's shameful. Don't let them convince you otherwise. I'll be writing on the issue shortly.

If the 3 blacks had not voted for the "Tram" it would've died because Councilman Wilson was absent. Only Chauna Banks from the black community did not vote against her community today. People can say what they want about Councilwoman Banks, at least her votes at this stage reflect what she says she is about which is north Baton Rouge. Even when we have the math to make a statement we are too weak to do so.

More wasted money, but somebody is about to get paid

Hasn't some of that started already?

Gary Chambers is so pathetic.
I just can't imagine why the council doesn't only vote on stuff to help black folks? I mean, if only north Baton Rouge were made better.
Oh wait, that would up property taxes and cause gentrification. Then he would bitch about that also

millions of dollars for a 3.5 mile system...where very few live.
People forget the rest of the city fights traffic everyday. Where is the plan for that?

I thought they usually issued bonds for the whole amount? So basically some design firm is going to get $10m and then this will die and never have to produce anything. Corruption is tight.

What has he actually done to help NBR?

Nah. Build really nice shite, but make sure the poors can live in the same areas at 1/1000th the price.

Still waiting for "River Park" to begin construction.
Better idea is to raze the Catfish Town area and start anew. And they should get rid of that shite Belle of Baton Rouge casino too. Have you been in that parking garage? Jesus that place is filthy. For a lot of people that's their first impression of Baton Rouge.
I hate to say it, but downtown Baton Rouge is as good as it's gonna get.

They could build the freaking Taj Mahal in north BR and nobody would come because they don't want to get shot or robbed. It's people like Chambers who are the problem. All he wants to do is further divide the city based on race. The upcoming mayor's face is gonna turn into a "whites versus north BR" situation. The area north of LSU looks like a third world country. The best thing that could happen to that area is gentrification.
