My first time in a bar was Shannon's in Plaquemine.

I was 16. They didn't give a frick.

Nick's didn't care either, also the Sugar Shack, an old drive thru snowball stand back of town. A quart of Schilitz was a dollar, drove up, ordered and left, was 15.

Haha, I forgot about that place. 100% correct. My Sr year we went many times. We would sometimes tell the doorman we were LSU soccer recruits or some shite and he would get us a table.

Drinking age was 18 in the '70's. It wasn't hard to get booze/beer, but I preferred the Cuban Liquor on Perkins Rd. A bunch of us would gather in a field by the University lakes on Friday mornings before class to initiate the weekend. Good times!

And then there was the double-drunk night at The Bayou for many years. I was of-age, but I'm sure many were not.

PS: Mung, are/were you a frisbee player?

Pretty much anywhere downtown Lafayette was fair game when I was 18.

Stan's was where we'd usually end up.

Sugars...25 Beautiful Girls, 3 Ugly Ones.
Started going when I was 16, use to have a midget with a glass eye working the door.

The Old Tabbys Blues Box on North Blvd. Thursday night was $5 Cover charge, free draft beer.

Andy's
little store at corner of 44@black bayou
friend's Dad owned what is now Chip's on Burnside (same shopping center as Park Place) - we used to take a case of long necks, remove the bottles, put garbage bag over box, re-insert bottles, fill with ice, place on front floorboard of car

Kevin Diez's family had a bar, where his catering business is now on 74, they had bands and used those big cable spools as tables

Lather's Sweet Shop on Hwy. 16 just across St. Helena Parish line. North of Watson--near present-day End of the Line truckstop / casino. For sure when I was 14, and maybe once or twice when I was still 13. I'd drive up there, get loaded, and drive around the countryside. It was an, um, "ethnic" establishment, but they made good money selling liquor to teenage farm boys like me. They also had a guy who sat in the parking lot selling $2.00 joints. Low end schwag but still good times all around. On good nights I'd hustle a few games of pool and pay for the whole evening.
