Your other option would be to look for a DSLD / DR Horton spec home. Although, those may be more too.

I have one for 180k. It's 4BR/2Ba and 2300 sqft. It does need updating but you could move in today and update room by room.

One of those starter home neighborhoods off of Burbank on the Highland side?

I think that's where this dude needs to look unless he wants a complete project.

Yeah I believe so. By the Albertsons. I think he rented it out for a year or so but is moving away so needs to get rid of it. Move in ready I believe.

I'd look off of Jefferson Hwy between Brentwood and Brandon. Plenty of houses in there are close to your budget.

also, look between Government and Florida west of Jefferson and before Foster

70809 and 70806

check out Beau Pre off Brightside near LSU. perfect location if you work anywhere between bluebonnet and downtown south of perkins. Houses in there start around 150.

Only downside is most of your neighbors will be college aged renters

Move to west Baton Rouge or Ascension

However if you already have a job lined up in Baton Rouge then you may not want to move to the west side, traffic gets worse each day.

Actually you are probably right. That subdivision off Staring/Highland might have some options. They don't stay on the market long though.

Old Jefferson neighborhood off of Antioch. 5-10 min from I-10 at highland. Just bought mine in there for 160. Best ratio of price/quality of homes/neighborhood in baton rouge.

I don't know about WBR... but I think it would be tough to find anything more than a trailer for under $150K in Ascension. Unless he wants to move to Donaldsonville.

Dude could also probably find a good deal off of Kingscrest/Highpoint or in Mayfair if he wants to take a gamble on those subdivisions turning around. They are lower income but I don't think either are particularly unsafe.

Indeed this is the only answer. The petition drive should be a lot swifter this go round. Better get in before we incorporate and build the wall around it...

C'mon over to the LP(Livingston Parish - Specifically, Walker or Denham Springs). 150k will get a nice little starter home, albeit probably cookie cutter. Crime is muuuuch lower than BR. Not much to do in the way of entertainment, but BR is only a 10-15 minute drive.

Ceadercrest might be a good place to look as well. It's pretty easy to get around Baton Rouge from there.
