Always got a kick out of people who went to the casino for "free drinks."

I dated a girl when I was in my early 20's who managed the steakhouse at what was then Casino Rouge. She told me a few pro tips on things to avoid if you're ever on the tables or on the floor (I don't gamble at all, but still interesting):

1.) Never order a daiquiri. They don't change the machines out. Like...Ever. Which means they're never cleaned out. Like...Ever.
2.) When you order a Crown & Coke for example, they splash the bottom with Crown, fill it up with ice and coke, and then insert a straw into the bottle of Crown, press the tip of their finger onto the top of the straw and then immediately transfer it to the drink. Makes that first sip nice and spicy, but after that? Nothing but a Coke and a Smile...

I was a helper on a keg truck one summer. A bar in Pascagoula would buy 10kegs of Old Milwaukee every week and pass it off as Bud Light, Miller Light, etc.

Damn that's a lot of effort for a trick.

However, back in college when I'd go home the Imperial Palace had a free drink bar by the penny slots.

I'm positive I came out on top there.

Can anybody really tell the difference between premium and generic liquor? I sure can't.

Gin? Yes.
Rum? Yes.
Scotch? Definitely (but I only drink single malt)
Bourbon? Sometimes I really doubt it, don't drink it neat enough to know.
Vodka is for mixing.
Tequila es el Diablo.

I'm sure you can tell when you are sober, but that really isn't the point now is it?

Bourbon?
Yes. If you are drinking Bourbon and not mixing it you definitely can tell the difference.

I always wonder if casinos are typically giving you what you ask for

If you ask for crown and seven, are you just getting Canadian whiskey?

I read somewhere you must specifically ask for a call brand at a casino to remotely have a chance of getting it. (And I bet there's no way you would get a premium or ultra premium brands unless you are in a high roller area. You ain't getting Makers 46 if you're posted up at the nickel slots) I also wonder how much of a pour they give you -- I bet it's less than an ounce. That's why you should just drink beer in casinos.

Never once seen this done at any BR casinos.

I worked somewhere that did that. In 3 years of pouring Seagrams 7 out of a Crown bottle, maybe 3 or 4 people questioned it as not tasting right. I'd say "huh, that's weird, lemme make you a new one", grab the real Crown (always have a real bottle handy for such occasions as well as certain regulars) and pour a new one.

No one ever could tell the difference between Taaka and Absolute, and Absolute and Kettle One.

Those were the only things sub'd out at that particular place. You also have to use common sense. If a guy orders Crown on the rocks, unless he's hammered, pour real Crown.
