Automakers are supporting provisions in copyright law that could prohibit home mechanics and car enthusiasts from repairing and modifying their own vehicles.

I don't mess with BMW and Porsche anymore because of this. Forcing you to go to the stealership.

Worst car I've ever owned.

It's ridiculous they try to force people to the dealership.

I don't work on my own car or modify my own cars either so it won't affect me at all. I already pay people to do that stuff as is

Most people have know this for years. It's practically impossible to do anything other than basic maintenance on today's cars. Matter of fact, it's probably been this way for at least the last ten years.

They are fricking stupid to think they can tell people what do with one of their most expensive purchases in life.

Frick no they don't. It used to take me 5 minutes to change a burnt headlamp bulb. Now I have to remove the grill and/or front bumper to change the damn thing.

Sensors are always failing when you need an inspection sticker.

I hate working on newer cars, especially newer Fords with aluminum body and any model Audi.

My sister drives a BMW and has never had a trip to the dealership under $700.

Freaking rip off

Interesting, so perhaps someone not on the automaker's payroll would be legally barred from diagnosing factory defects and safety hazards that could lead to a recall.

Headlight replaced try having to replace the entire light assembly and it can only be ordered through the dealership.

Check engine light been on in my truck for 8 years and it always passes inspection. Even with blackout tint all the way around and illegal exhaust (no cats or mufflers just dual exhaust straight off the headers with 18" glasspaks).

2005 5 series with 38,000 miles in 2007 - heater went out - $3,200.00 later drove the mofo off of Brian Harris lot. Never again, traded in on a Landcruiser.

I don't see this happening. Beyond pissing off every weekend mechanic and car enthusiast, I'm sure every auto parts store, Walmart and independent car service shops will be lobbying against this
