Dude, they're 18 and on their own for the first time of their lives. Death wasn't the goal but extreme intoxication is always the goal at that age. We used to have parties where we would take shot after shot of vodka and tally each shot to see who could drink the most. We'd all end up black out drunk and have to check the chart the next day to see who won.

Rumor is this was a hazing incident. Totally different set of circumstances.

How fricking brain dead do you have to be in this day and age to force, or even in any way encourage, an 18 or 19 year old kid to drink himself to death

Especially at LSU. I realize Ben Wynn was 20 years ago and most of these guys weren't alive, but his death still lingers over the LSU Greek system. Beyond stupid & criminal.

Appreciate the info. Could you disclose the source of the info? How you learned it and such?

From one of the Phi Delta's.

Wbrz just dropped his name. So I guess it's safe to say on here. Max Gruver. He was from Georgia. 18 years old.

Hopefully chicken won't wack this.

Things have really changed in the last 40 years regarding hazing. Back in the day, there was a lot of push ups, sit ups, the perverbial "toilet game", actives yelling at pledges, etc. and while there was a lot of alcohol - back then 18 was the legal drinking age - there was NEVER forced alcohol consumption. From my perspective, while a pledge may be weak, who ever is doing the forcing is even weaker.

You can't kick off all fraternities when a large portion of donations come from fraternity alumni and when out of state applicants are already very low. A new lazy river isn't going to get kids from georgia to come here. Especially when it was the actions of a single fraternity.

No way they charge anyone with murder. Manslaughter, but not murder

BRPD brought the DWI van out to the Parade Grounds one Thurs night and told the fraternities to have a "couple of beers" and walk over to blow into the machine. Intent was to show how you may feel fine but aren't suited to drive. It quickly turned into who can blow the highest number and they had to shut it down.

There is no rational thought with college kids and alcohol.

I would think manslaughter as well, but that's not what I heard.

Per WBRZ, he was driven to the hospital last night by someone (not EMS) and later today BRPD went to the house and roped it off as a crime scene.

ETA: They likely classified it as a crime once he passed away late last night/early this morning.

Not only are DAs charging, but getting convictions of murder for drug dealers whose clients overdose on their supply.
