I am not sure why I feel compelled to have an OT verdict on this. Does listening to an audio book count as having read the book?

For some reason I feel as though I am lying anytime I claim to have read something that I actually listened to.

No. It's cheating.

As long as you can comprehend the theme and carry on a legitimate discussion about the plot and characters, then it is as good as reading it. I listen to tons of audio books while I am driving.

I listen to audiobooks everyday. And no, it doesn't count as reading the book.

I read a lot and I listen to audiobooks.

Why wouldn't it count?

I imagine readers are likely to use audiobooks anyway.

I always make the distinction - because reading something and listening to something are quite different things.

People who refer to "reading" audio books almost always go out of their way to not mention that it's audio.

Much like a navigator talking about "flying."

For some reason I thought this was going to be an "are audio books trashy?" thread

If someone can't read at all, but then listened to an audio book, would you say he "read" the book, even though he can't
read?

BTW I love audio books and have probably 50 on my phone. In fact, I listen to them more than I do read at home.

You know, I've never even considered reading along.
