Well this would be a Type 2 Civilization, which really means only another Type 2 or 3 Civilization could wipe them out. I see no reason why this confirms the Fermi Paradox.

quote:

We don't know what they'd look like, but we do know if they have become a space fairing race what they use for energy. Its entire planets and stars. They have the most amount of matter and energy that can be exploited. So we look for stars and planets that seem to be oddly disprortionate in these levels of energy and hopefully find some struture they are using to siphon stars and planets.

My problem with this line of thinking is that it's all based on earth and earth principles. And it's talking about things that we may not even be able to comprehend, yet here you are spouting off about Type 2 this or Type 3 that.

Yeah, but in theory another solar system/planet is bound by the same laws of physics and chemistry that we are.

Well, in theory at least.

would be neat, but it'd also be a death sentence for our species. according to the fermi paradox, finding other intelligent life would almost certainly mean that the great filter is ahead of us.

The Fermi paradox is just a bunch of made up bullshite to give nerds something to talk about onlin .

So with a near infinite amount of time on a near infinite number of planets orbitting a near infinite number of stars, how does that happen only once in a universe expanding 28 billion light years? It is mathmatically impossible we are truly alone.

We don't even understand physics ourselves though so how can we compare hypothetical mastery of physics to our basic understandings?

SHOULD... not would.

You forget that the defining characteristic of organized religion IS the psychology of believing in stuff that makes no logical sense, and holding on to it no matter what.

And there will always be people living in cardboard boxes, we just happen to live in an era where the least number of people per capita do in world history.

Such a stupid argument. If this is the case, let's cancel all sporting events and give the money they would have made to charity. Those are just frivolous entertainment in their most base forms.

But yeah, let's not waste money on finding out the ultimate question on whether we are alone and simply focus on things that matter, like Donald Trump, who will be forgotten by the end of the next century. Now go turn on Sportscenter and crawl into your bag of Doritos until you inevitably die of heart failure.

Cmon bro, if you think humans understand physics at anything greater than a base level, then it shows how much you don't know

There is a theoretical Types IV and V civilizations, and unlike 2 and 3, there's a good chance we wouldn't be able to detect it. These get more into the level of :drumroll: Interstellar aliens where they are extra dimensional. But the logical way most aliens would gather energy is through planets and stars, and that could be detected.

Well since we're sending out probes now that depict transgendereds and gays, the aliens will stay the frick away from us for sure

Again, it's just as likely (or unlikely) that they have mastered gravity and manipulate miniature black holes for energy. Or antimatter.

You types of guys are supposed to be the ones to think outside of the box, right?

Well, in theory at least.

I'm saying that there are most likely elements in the universe that we have never (and maybe will never) even know exist. We base literally everything in our history ON our history, including our theories about what is out there across the universe. For all we know, there may be elements in other solar systems, that we can't even comprehend, that make interstellar travel easy as pie.

And for all we know, some place on the other side of the universe may not be bound by the same laws that we are. I understand how sort of silly that sounds, but it's easily possible. So maybe other planets/solar systems/alien species aren't bound by the same things.

It's pretty arrogant of us to think we have shite figured out and can predict anything worth a frick about what's out there, when we (as a species) are so young ourselves. And don't get me wrong, it's all infinitely interesting to think about, and I love reading about shite like this. But for us to pretend our theories and hypotheses are anywhere close to reality is pretty laughable when you sit back and think about it.
