I will grant the OP has a point here. LSU Band Dept doesn't seem to do much of anything outside the university. Rarely see them at Mardi Gras or other functions. They have a High School right on campus with a decent marching band. You would think they would make an effort to recruit from there or host those kids for a game or something. They don't. They just seem to do their thing and that's it.

Are you KIDDING ME? do you even know what it costs and takes to gather, feed, and transport a 325 member organization? Wow. We did Rex my junior year because we got paid a huge sum, but due to the alrsAdy demanding obligations of tigerband, AND the fact it's considered a class, you're rarely going to get everyone together outside of the obligations to which they are assigned.

You people have no clue.

Hey scooba, can you send me a PM on fb? I think I've forgotten who you are, sorry! Don't be offended, I can't even remember normal day to day anymore.

Clean up is fine, most everything was destroyed and I still have a ton of pics I'm trying to salvage. In the same crappy boat as many, but grateful it wasn't worse.

I have zero issues with that as a tiger band alum.

Sad for you. One part of the Tiger Band mission has always been to perform public service.

They are currently dealing with a new director and we're trying to get through preseason week during the flood.

I thought Llinas has been there for 4 years? Speaking of preseason week during a flood, I think it was irresponsible to call band members to campus for camp while Louisiana was under a declared "state of emergency" and both the Governor and State Police were telling Louisiana residents to STAY OFF THE ROADS, putting band members in danger......could of waited 24-48 hours.
quote:

How about the fact that probably 30% of the members are from this area and were likely dealing with their own flooded family homes or apartments. Good grief!

Exactly...what were they doing on campus at that time from 8:00 am until 10:30 pm???

The goal of my years at LSU was that people not figure out who I was. Ruins the image.

I have nothing to say to you if you think the tigerband should have forgone preseason week to go donate their instruments or go perform a half assed pregame. You would've been the same person posting about how horrific their pregame and halftime performances were after the first home game, I bet.

I'm a PROUD LSU tigerband alum who probably does more community service than you can shake a stick at, but I believe there's a time and a place to handle your business.. And they have ONE week to audition members, learn pregame and have things sparkly a week later for unappreciative asshats like you. So good for them for taking care of their business. I was in the band during Katrina, Rita, and Gustav and not one practice was ever cancelled or moved unless school was closed. Only break we ever got was during Katrina for one week. Rita? Nope. Gustav? Nope.

You've got a lot of time to gripe, maybe you should get off the message board and go volunteer at the food bank or something.

I thought this was about going to Lambeau and not hearing Pregame. Then when Lambeau graciously offered the stadium mic to our 10 piece band in the 4th Q, they decided to play some Mardi Gras tune and not Pregame.

I was also ashamed.

TGBFTL has had a horrible off season themselves. I would imagine that this season has been very difficult for them in terms of dealing with defections and assembling a product for football season.

I would give them a pass on this one.

They may or may not do much outside, but...

my kid goes to an Ascension parish public high school. Last year Tiger Band hosted them for some kind of performance, and then hosted them for another, pre-concert festival critique session. Two events for one high school in one year.

I have no knowledge regarding the OP.

I wonder what his connection to tiger band is? Current member disguising his profile info? Angry grandparent? Disenchanted alumnus?

I am a TGBFTL alum and I don't have a clue what the day to day goings on there are now. This guy knows all of the ins and outs of the current operations

Who said that? I said take a few minutes to visit the folks in the shelter (on campus/THE FIELD HOUSE) and play a couple of songs for them. THE FOOTBALL TEAM DID JUST THAT.
Who said "donate their instruments?" They could of easily LOANED some instruments to the Ascension parish band students who were in need (especially since Ascension parish has loaned the LSU band instruments to get them through alumni band many times).

And they have ONE week to audition members

Ha-Ha....audition members??? They took every person who showed up at camp because there were far short of 325 at camp!!!

unappreciative asshats like you

Really?? Why resort to this? I'm just calling attention to something I am a big fan of (since before you were born) that is being torn apart by "asshats."

As a matter of fact, I have been helping friends with drywall, carpet, etc.
Please remember, I love those kids in the tiger band (always have) and I want to see the band continue to be what it has been for LSU fans for years. However, this current administration is a joke.

Second, the Southern band stepped up by taking a few minutes out of their band camp schedule to ease the pain and suffering of flood victims residing at shelters with a heartfelt performance. Souther band performs for flood victims

I don't mean to be a dick, but that's kind of shitty compared to the other two

It was you who just threw a freaking hissy pants fit bc the band did not go to play for an on campus shelter during their full day practice session. SO WHICH IS IT, SHOULD THEY BE ON CAMPUS OR NOT BE ON CAMPUS? Good Lord almighty. You complain just to complain and contradict yourself all over the place.

BTW I understand that the band missed several days of practice because the university was closed. I'm sure you will just say that this is a lie, though.

You are loco.

I said (if you will read carefully everything I said) that it would have been a better decision to wait 24-48 hours to start camp because of the road conditions, state of emergency, Governor et al advising residents to stay off the roads. Once on campus, what's wrong with stopping by the field hose for a few minutes to make some people feel a little better?

I have commented on this a number of times, so no, I would not refer to it as a lie.....please read my posts before making this type of remark (it kinda makes you seem "loco").

I am aware that the LSU band has an extensive collection of instruments that are ONLY used for the Alumni band performance each year (enough for a 300 piece alumni band).

You realize there are rules on what a public entity can do with surplus property, right?

OK......Let me see.......Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana can give instruments to a high school in the Baton Rouge area but LSU can't?

Thank God someone is finally donating to this.

With all the coverage on flood victims, there's not early enough coverage on the floos victims.
