I think it's a combination of genetics and environment. When it comes to athletics, very few of us will ever benefit from it financially. This is largely why people care more about intelligence, and why people are usually more offended at the notion that there is an inherent intelligence gap among different races.

How can anyone not know there are genetic differences between races? Seriously? Do you have eyes?

So upbringing is the reason there aren't any white or asian CBs in the NFL?

Upbringing is the reason for Sickle cell being a black trait?

upbringing is the reason there are no white sprinters in the olympics from the U.S.?

I should have expanded my answer.

The way people act is upbringing. A lot of what a person believes is in their upbringing.

Work ethic is upbringing. You don't have to be super talented to able to work hard.

Obviously not everyone can be a world class athlete so genetics primarily and then upbringing; just because you have the ability to be a world class athlete doesn't mean you will unless you do something with the ability, therefore working hard is upbringing because you've been shown what hard work does.

I mean, there's a reason why there isn't a single CB in the NFL who isn't black? Right?
There's a reason for everything, but what makes you automatically assume it's because of race?

White kids might be better off financially and less likely to see athletics as a route to economic/social elevation, so they don't practice or attempt it like poor black kids might.

Coaches might be inherently biased and more prone to award those positions to black players based on their subconscious belief that black athletes are "faster," "taller," and "more aggressive" than whites.

Maybe the white guys with that size and speed can actually catch the ball and, therefore, are used as receivers instead of dbs.

Finally, there may not be any right now, but that doesn't mean they don't or haven't existed.

As to genetic differences, yes, there are, but that doesn't signify superiority or inferiority or even that they are "different." I have brown hair and other people have black hair. That's a genetic difference but it doesn't mean that we're "different." Moreover, the racial classifications are social constructs created to justify racial classifications and promote the idea that there is a scientific basis to believe that one group is superior to another.

No one is fricking with the Kenyans in distance running. I think it's both breed in them and nurtured since birth.

Had to do the comparison but it's like breeding a herding dog.

You saying having the traits that would have come along with that extra tendon and wingspan could have landed me in prison?

There are other levels of athletics and I am sure there is a hierarchy of brain surgeons (all are likely better at science than I am though.) There are only a handful for Olympic level sprinters in the world and quite a few neurosurgeons. Apples and oranges, man.

I know, but sometimes it can be hard to get your point across here. Especially when race is the topic.

I do think that there are a lot of cultural factors though. It appears that the poorer and less-educated the area that someone grows up in, the more stress is placed on physical abilities as a way out as opposed to education.

Absolutely.

If you listen to the political blowhards, they will have you convinced we are all equal and have equal abilities.

But why be offended when it's proven fact? Is it because one clan may not want to be treated or looked at differently or pitied?

I don't get offended when the Asian kid destroys the curve on the Bus Statistics midterm.

Aboslutely environment.

I'm not trying to do that at all. It would depend on what criteria you're using if you were to try and "rank the races."

Of course there are genetic differences but how they affect the person and group as a whole is vastly more complicated than simply having a better intelligence gene or athletic gene.

Then there are the very real aspects of epigenetics and upbringing.

Things are not black and white in genetics but instead are a million shades of gray.

You could have legitimately smart people of a certain race who are assumed to be dumb because of their race. Those people have to work harder to prove they aren't idiots, and then it still sometimes doesn't work.

This is a solid question.
