It has saved my arse twice in the last year. Back in February I was leaving Portlandon i84 in some light snow, California driver next to my trailer lost control and spun out into the side of the trailer. She tried claiming that I swerved into her causing her to lose control, dashcam showed otherwise.
Also, just a few weeks ago, I got sideswiped by a douche trying to cut me off when his lane was ending. Tore up the side of his vehicle because numbnuts didn't clear then front of my truck. He claimed I swerved into his lane and pit-slammed his truck. Dashcam proved otherwise.
Dashcams are 100% essential gear in semis now because the public is full of idiots trying to sue for their own incompetence.

I got a Garmin Mini, installs behind the rear view mirror and I bought the dongle that it powers from the rear view mirror, so no cords to route.

Only close calls so far. The Garmin networks to your phone, and footage is downloaded easily directly to your phone, with no wires.

Buddy at work has used his 3 times successfully to get out of "no fault" wrecks or a pile up where he was in the middle and they weren't sure who hit first.

It has saved him thousands of $.

Once you install one and realize this you drive a little less aggressive.

I agree that a driver with a dashcam would be inclined to drive more carefully and less aggressively but accidents will always happen. You have the right to remain silent but a dashcam can “testify” against you without your consent.

Yes, if you are a good driver.

My sister in law had two cars totaled. One due to a kid driving like an idiot and another by a guy who ran a red light. She could have used a dash cam, because in both cases the responsible drivers lied. The idiot kid was held responsible because there were witnesses that were also disabled.

Visiting Arches NP one time, I decided to record the trip out of the park with a gopro stuck on the windshield. In one of the curves a Class A slapped mirrors. I couldn't turn around and pulled up at the park headquarters, the guy already was calling saying i crossed the line and hit and ran. A single frame grab of his tires across the line shut that down pronto. Saved a ton of headaches at the time.

So here I am a few years later and I still don't have a dedicated dash cam.
