Are dash cams worthwhile?

I've been contemplating installing a dash cam in my vehicle.

Has anyone been in an accident in which your dash cam has actually been useful in preventing or helping in litigation?

I don't want to go thru the hassle of installing one if all the insurance company wants to do is settle the case and dismiss any video evidence.

Your insurer has attorneys and adjusters that know more about the jurisdiction and comparative negligence than you do. They may still still settle to protect you from a bad excess judgment even when you feel youre in the right. Appreciate their efforts.

Also, yes get one.

I know a few who have. It's a good idea in louisiana.

Yes, all our fleet vehicles have them, and its been used multiple times for Insurance claims, and it expedites the process greatly.

I have one in my personal vehicle. Outward facing only. Wired it to the rear view mirror to prevent wires everywhere

I’m getting one for Gee Jr so I’ll have video of any typical teenage nonsense. I also want records of any police interactions he has. I’ve told him that his interactions during a routine traffic stop should be yes sir no sir and obey commands. But you just never know with some of these cops today.

I have front and rear facing one. I got a ticket last week and brought the micro sd card inside to play the relevant footage to see if I actually committed the infraction (probably did ) but it won’t load on my iPad or Apple laptop…so now I am wondering if it has been recording at all! I would try to download on my non-Apple desktop, but can’t find the little doohickey that makes it standard size.

If you don’t have one, you’re an idiot.

Maybe but the recordings can also be used against you.

Could a cop argue that a dashcam obstructs the windshield?

I mean if you drive like an a-hole.

You can mount them directly behind your mirror.

had one front facing in my truck for a couple years but I guess the heat eventually got to it. Started to buy a new one on Amozon but there are so many freaking options that I got frustrated and gave up. I wanted enough resolution to be able to read a license plate. Tons of dashcams suck at clarity.

Simply because of the simplicity of not fighting insurance or the other driver in an accident where the other driver is at fault.

I was rear ended this past summer and spent 50+ hours on the phone with my insurance and their insurance fighting over essentially a scratch on my bumper. Wish I had a dash cam so I could get those 50 hours back.

Over here it's 10% off my insurance for my teenage sons to have one. That & a backup cam.

Never hurts to have one. You could start a 2tig YT dashcam channel.

Had one in a brand new $150k work truck. Guy pulls out in front and my guy sent him and the passenger to the hospital. They hired a lawyer who immediately dropped them when we sent the video of the wreck and our driver's actions just prior to hitting them.

If you are a business owner, take my word for it, install one pointed forward, one to the rear and here is the key !!!
Third camera pointed at YOUR DRIVER !!!!! Trust me…….

You’ll be able to see it close up, but even police dash cams can’t see plates 40ft away.

Apeman is probably the best camera brand that I’ve found. Have four of them.

We no longer have a high trust society in this country so not only are dash cams a good idea, I think they are mandatory.
