Yea, black barbershops are more of an experience than just a place to get a hair cut. I used to go to the one you're talking about.

I have an Italian friend that still goes weekly.

pete has got to be getting into his 90s and i worry everytime i go that im going to walk in and he's gonna be gone for good

been going for about 4 years

there are also a couple younger guys in lafayette that have opened new shops in the past couple years that offer the old school barber experience

Place I go to.

I wasn't making the "hipster" point disparagingly. I'm not sure what you're referring to here.

True. It's a hipster thing. Went hand in hand with the wet shaving DE razor thing. The Shaving thing has peaked. I hope the barber shops remain.

The place I linked has everything. Older dude runs it. The original owner (1965) still works a couple days early AM and is retired. You have old white guys, couple black guys, and a couple Mexican dudes, and now white bearded hipster guy with tats all working there. Place is packed. Racial harmony.

Love the place. Shavette neck shave after. Great haircut. I've used 3 different guys. $20 with tip? They have original magazines from 1960's to look through. I always enjoy myself there.

Robert's Barber Shop at Highland and Lee. The only person to ever cut my hair. I don't know what I'll do when he closes shop.

When I was in the military and on leave, I would go to the old barber shop in town. The main clientele in age was 50 and up. I remember he still had photos on the wall promoting various haircuts. All from the sixties.
So basicly, if you wanted a flat top or look like Richie Cunningham, he was your guy.

Long Beach Ms has two barber shows. One is a older man and his son and the other one is run by a woman on Jeff Davis. Good hair cuts and lots of gossip

I quit going over a year ago. Now I just use my Oster A5 and do it myself. Mostly use the size 10 (1 mm) blade. Takes about 10 min once a month or so.

I'm old, retired, and no longer trying to impress anyone.

The old dude at my barber shop can "free hand a flat-top". I don't know how impressive that is, but all the other barbers there think it is. He won't use a razor to shave a neck anymore though. Doesn't trust his probably 80 year old hands.

As a dude that had a few flat tops, it's impressive. Sometimes haircuts just "pop".
It was odd going into this barber shop for the last time. 2008? It was a time capsule. The photos, electric shoe shine stand, hot shaving cream machine and the used up boar brush to slap it on your neck.
Halcyon times.

I go to a new "high end" shop right by my house in Ridgeland...Noble Barber is an interesting cultural experience in that they have a bar that serves beer...

It's a mix of straight guys and hot girls...the guys all have beards and that seems to be their area of expertise...

The one on Jeff Davis is out of my way, but her son is an avid comic book collector and has a setup in the back. Really cool guy.

Have been using Magazine Barber shop. Not sure where it falls on the 'hipster' scale.

Cesar keeps it pretty old school and masculine, but it definitely isn't the place with a barber putting out a cigarette at the booth.

I'd get a fresh cut every other day if she was my barber.
