My first trip to upstate NY was with some Yankees who had been visiting in Atlanta the week before and making redneck comments. Well wouldn't you know we hit some small towns above NYC heading to a winery and I saw a couple double wides with a confederate flag hanging high and old cars broke down in the yard. Laughed my arse off and kept bringing it up all weekend.

We went to eat that night in NYC and he waitress asked me how I liked NY and I told her I was shocked at the open racism I had seen earlier in the day. Made everyone including the waitress warmly uncomfortable.
