If so, what made you get checked for it? How often are you in severe pain?

there are no simple answers
but one can get understanding, provided you bother to read
ever read this;

pure sugar contributes...by depleting minerals to digest the sugar, cuz it was stripped clean of any minerals
I can lead a horse to water...
but Proverbs 1:7 will produce downvoters, good luck with that...

I have an autoimmune thyroid disease. Causes the same symptoms. I go through periods where using my joints is an issue. Severe pain.

What caused you to get checked?

My mother got it at age 29 and it ultimately did her in. Had every joint in body replaced and never went a day without pain. She did work and retire at a young age but every single day was a struggle.

Recently doctor said I was misdiagnosed with RA in 2007, now Dr. thinks I have Ankylosing Spondylitis pending lab results and x-rays.
But to answer your question, the first time I saw a Rheumatologist was after a incident of severe pain in my ankle; it felt sprained/broken but x-ray came back negative, so the Podiatrist sent me to get blood work, RA factor & HLB27 was high so he sent me to a Rheumatologist.
As far as pain, the doctor prescribed me a shite ton of Norco at one point it was too much pain that Methadone helped relieve it.
With the right treatment pain can be suppressed to the minimal.

I have something similar. I was in severe pain. GP couldn't figure out what it was. I researched on my own and figured it out. Told GP. He sent me to a rheumy. I take a biologic and it works great.
If you have symptoms, go to a doctor and get checked out. If you have pain in joints, damage could be resulting from that. Don't wait.

Ive always had severe pains in my ankles and knees since I was a young kid. I could never play any kind of contact sports because of it. I learned how to live with it. After years of my pediatrician saying that it was just "growing pains" I was finally diagnosed with RA when I was 25.
I go into severe pain about 2 times a month.

It is somewhat manageable now with the drugs they have out there.

Terrible pain. They told me I was making it up. Progressed to them giving me meds to shut me up (went years off and on). A specialist (GI) was doing random test, and found the antibodies and my TSH was off. Still hasn't degraded to a point where they will remove it, so I medicate.

take Rituxin to manage my RA.... originally got tested as I started making turnovers with BBall due to swollen fingers

My grand father had the third worst case in medical history at the time of his Death in 1981. Was bed ridden for 15 years. Had every exploratory surgery and drug you can think of at the time.
My older brother now has it and is aggressively treating it. He has been unable to work for a decade and has had both knees replaced and even some knuckle surgery.
It is some bad stuff.

I have psoriatic arthritis. Go see a good rheumatologist sooner rather than later. The biologicals out now work miracles for many patients . They can stop the pain and prevent further joint damage.

That's what I have. Before I was diagnosed, I wanted to cut off some of my limbs due to the pain. Enbrel took care of that.

Ditto. I hated getting out of bed in the morning because the first 20 steps were agony. Enbrel made me nearly symptom free. Amazing turn around

Did your doctor try methotrexate first?
