Nurses there told us some interesting stories of getting sprayed with various bodily fluids(poop,semen,urine,vomit, blood) whenever they opened the cells to administer meds to the prisoners.
The father of someone I went to HS with resides there. He killed some people while in a delusional state. When he's on his meds, he's fine, but he won't take his meds voluntarily, so he stays there for the foreseeable future.

I worked as a guard at one while in college. I've seen some things. Mostly housed INS inmates that minded their P's and Q's while awaiting transfer. They weren't much on starting trouble, but when they did the shite would really jump off. The Cubans were the worst.

The patient I was assigned to as a student (a man that murdered someone) told me I'm too nice to be a psych nurse there and I should go work with kids or something like that.
I guess I took his advice
It takes a certain type of person to work in places like that. You have to have eyes in the back and sides of your head at all times and be able to command respect from your patients or you will not last long there and/or could potentially get seriously hurt by a patient.

I worked with a guy that was once a guard at Angola.
He loved to get chances to beat up prisoners with his club and generally talk shite to them every chance he got, or so he said. He had little man syndrome so, take it fwiw.

I live near a privately run prison. The people who work there are without exception the trashiest of trash.

I'm interested in running/owning a prison. That sounds like it would be a pretty kick arse life.

During my residency I took care of many inmate in the TDC hospital. Never had a problem with any of them but I hated going behind the bars to get in there.
Also during medical school spent some time monitoring group therapy sessions for sex offenders - those folks are born wrong and should be put down.

I once worked with a guy that had just left a job as a prison guard at Angola and Jetson Juvenile Prison before that. He said that by far Jetson was a much more dangerous place to be. Constant fights and stabbings. From what he said, those youngsters don't play while the older prisoners at Angola were pretty accepting of being there and docile for the most part.

Just like any pack, gotta establish a heirarchy. Once everybody knows who the alphas are, things settle down. Those guys are there for the long term and it's their home. They don't want constant bullshite any more than you want your neighbors to be always causing drama.

I taught a kid that had gone to Jetson. He had the 1,000 yard stare.
I thought he was gonna stab me everyday, but he actually liked me.
None of the other kids messed with him. He could have his head on his desk and sleep, or choke you and stab you with a pencil. It was your choice.

I'm a teacher at one of the Federal prisons in Louisiana.
I teach grown men who read on a 2nd and 3rd grade level.
I've also done a few overtime shifts in the housing units.

During our clinicals at the state psych facility we were told we didn't have to wear scrubs but not to wear anything tight fitting(all females in my group). One girl wore tight jeans anyways. There was a fall fest thing that day in the recreation area and during a cakewalk one of the nonviolent patients got so excited over my classmate's arse that he shite himself 5 feet from the table with all the baked goods on it
