It's getting bonkers in and around my neighborhood. For those that don't know, Nextdoor is a social media site/app that focuses on your neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods. People are not anonymous, but they can limit what personal information is shown under their profile. You can only view people's profiles that live in your neighborhood, but you can see other people's names if they live in a nearby neighborhood and decide to post or reply.

Right now there is a thread about cat trapping with 75 responses, including threats of violence/self defense, misunderstanding of the use of sarcasm, and all-around misinformation as to the application of Baton Rouge city ordinances. If anything, Nextdoor has revealed so much more about my neighbors than I would have ever imagined.

I am on there and primarily lurk.

And I must live near you, because I know exactly what thread you're talking about.

Yeah, I primarily use it for our company although I have one myself but rarely use it. It's a pretty good little resource to stay plugged into the community.

I'm a member of Nextdoor. Can't say it has been as helpful as I thought it would be.

I never realized how paranoid housewives are

any loud noise is gun shots, any non white is obviously out to murder them, every slow car is suspicious, etc

Which is scary and gives me little hope that I can have reasonable discussions with some of my neighbors.

there are a lot of stray cats in my neighborhood

I don't have a problem with them because we have a monster Maine Coon that will murder any cat that comes near out house, but others have serious issues

several old ladies also feed all the cats and if you live next to one of those, it can be annoying

In EBR they'll let you trap them and then bring them to get fixed and then released back where they were caught.

We have it here in Huntsville, Al too. I haven't joined up for our subdivision...our FB page is better with all the drama. Everything from bashing the contractor to cat trapping to speeding teens....Mostly housewives that like to sit at home and bitch about something...

All of this

My neighborhood backs up to some woods that is private property out of the city limits.

They called the cops one day because they were hearing gunshots in the woods

my favorite is when some lady posted a picture of the meter reader, who was clearly wearing a city vest, with the caption "this man is going around tampering with everyone's meter, please be careful" and she called the cops

Yes, mostly used for selling and giving away goods and offering baby/dog/house sitting services.

Not much drama in my neighborhood.

Some people feed and maintain feral cat colonies (and outdoor cats) around the city. Some neighbors are fed up with the cats coming onto their property and using their property as a litter box. This thread started as one neighbor warning the nearby neighbors that a new homeowner was setting hav-a-heart traps on their property to trap and bring up to CAA. It quickly devolved from there.
