There are a lot of good Troops in BR and surrounding areas. Check here for local info:

My boys are in a Troop in Denham Springs. They enjoy it. Yes, there are some kids who aren't as outgoing as others but Scouting can make them feel included. Always remember that every Eagle Scout may not go to the moon, but every man that walked on the moon was an Eagle Scout!

Cub Scouting is about cake bakes, pinewood derby cars, and arts and crafts.
Boy Scouting is about turning a boy into a man. It teaches self reliance, team work, social skills, survival skills, serving others, and basic respect for nature and the outdoors.
The troops in the area try to go on a campout about once every month or two, attend merit badge days a couple times a year where kids can learn new skills, host a skeet shooting competition once per year, do various community service projects, attend the annual Camporee competition, and attend a summer and winter camp at Avondale near Clinton, LA
The kids can often be some of the weird types because scouting has to compete with other afterschool activities like sports. However, scouting does a great job of giving even the weirdest kids something to belong to and a framework for success. A lot of weirdos go into scouting and come out as successful, well adjusted adults.
Scouting was a huge influence on my life as a teenager, and was where I really learned to be self-sufficient, and where I learned how to be a leader.

One of my biggest regrets in life was quitting Boy Scouts. I woulda loved to make Eagle.

Same here. I did manage to earn two merit badges. I enjoyed camping at Avondale. I gave up way too soon.

I made Eagle in 2003 and I have the exact same sentiment. I'll admit that I was self conscious of being in scouts in middle school and high school to an extent. But looking back, I wouldn't change a thing.
My brother and I are both Eagle Scouts. We were members of a rural troop that produced some great Eagle Scouts.
We lost our scout master to heart problems last year. That was some tough news to hear. He absolutely helped make me who I am today. The first six Eagle Scouts from our troop laid him to rest.

Go to the Istrouma Area Council website.
From my experience, Boy Scouts was more fun and Cub Scouts wasn't. The parents did everything in Cub Scouts. I learned waaaay more and did way more cool stuff in Boy Scouts.
