How much have you spent on it?

What special stuff have you done (i.e. special ceiling lighting, "stadium" seating, etc.)?'

Do you have home theater seating or standard coaches/chairs?

Not sure if I have a "true home theater" but have dedicated room with projector, screen, seating (couches) and surround. No lighting or other fanciness. Also, have no blacked out the walls around the screen with felt but considering it. Will probably be adding mini fridge and popcorn machine/microwave in near future. I have tower speakers for the fronts bc don't like in wall.

IIRC, electronics ran approx.

$2700 projector (Epson - forget model), screen and mount (Visual Apex Website package)
$1500ish receiver - Anthem
$2000ish speakers and wire - Paradigm (had sub)
$900ish Oppo BR
$100 Apple TV
about $300 odds and ends, wall plates, ceiling power for projector, fish tape, etc.
ETA - forgot power supply - don't remember cost.

Did the work myself, and it's awesome. Got quoted about $15k for similar setup professionally installed.

A friend of mine has one. It's pretty neat but I'd never waste a room on that in a house.

I have a 73" sharp flat, ps3, x-box, 6 theater seats, in ceiling surround sound, theater lighting, pictures and other theater decor, heavy insulation, double door entry. Maybe $7,000 in it?

Kids love it, I love it but honestly don't use it as much as I thought I would because I have a 65" in my living room and end up just not walking upstairs. Seemed like a great idea at the time, but definitely not a great value proposition.

Yes. Home theater seating but it doesn't matter. Get something comfortable.

Spent a lot but I'm in the business so I get it cheaper and it's a demo room. Two 4' high racks filled with equipment. Room is 21' X 13'.

Lights and all equipment are controlled by an automation system. Screen triggers down when the processor turns on but that is no big deal really. It's just a 12v trigger.

$1-2 Million depending on finish materials for the room.

Yeah, the equipment in the racks alone goes for a lot more than that.

The answer is what do you want and how much can you afford. $15k is a very basic home theater setup in a dedicated room.

We had a 110 inch projector with 7.1 klipsch surround sound and 7 theatre chairs set up as stadium seating. It was awesome but we moved, we still have the chairs but are trying to sell them.

The chairs alone were over 6k. The stereo equipment was about 6k. We also had a wet bar. It's just like any other home add-on it costs more than you realize.

This is more something I have wanted. just like the set up of tvs and stuff. Not the chairs and all the other BS.

Would always have friends over for football weekends

Should have said without going overboard. That would be for a decent theater system.

True. I'm also driving 8 zones of audio with the ability to send different sources to each zone. That takes gear, money and discrete sources.

There's nothing wrong with a $15k theater. It's just the entry level point for a dedicated room and there are not many frills or bells and whistles to the build of the room.
