Wife and I were talking about it today. Would like to hear personal experience. Either pro or con. Thanks!

Got to get that kid the advantage for high school football down the road?

Is he/she not dominating T-ball to your standards.

I was a summer birthday and was "held back". Im very happy I did. I developed a bit faster than others in my grade and helped build me into a leader type person.

Our son did kindergarten twice. Catholic school was full day and we didn't feel he was ready for a full day of school at 5 so he did public school one year and then began Catholic school the following year. It had nothing to do with sports and everything to do with his attention span.

Nope, has nothing to do with sports. She is strong in math skills, but struggling in the "reading" section. She has difficult time recognizing the sounds. Also having her tested for dyslexia. She is very bright but right now, not sure that brightness is translating.

You should just homeschool your kid....
I'll wait for reactions.

I have one kid with a November birthday that is the oldest in her class. My son has an august birthday and will turn 4 just as he starts pre k and will be the youngest in his class. It's comical to me to picture him in a classroom because he is so young. I fully expect to have him repeat pre k.

My youngest is a sophomore in college. I appreciate the extra year I had with him at home. He's stayed at college while plenty others have come back home and not gone back. I like to think that extra year of maturity had a little to do with that.

outside of a disability, this should be the primary reason why one should consider holding a child back.
My son has a summer birthday and we held him back and we can see the results of that decision this year. He's more confident in himself and he's more open to try things. He starts kindergarten next year. I'm glad we made the decision to hold him back a year.

My son's birthday was 2 days before the cutoff ... we did NOT send him. Maturity was an issue ... he'll be 17 in July and a junior in the fall. Doing fine ... glad we did it for him.
Now our first son turned 5 and then went to school 2 weeks later ... graduated 4.0, and is graduating from LSU in engineering in 4 years. He was the youngest in his class BUT he was one of the more mature ones despite this.
I think that you know your child and what's best for him/her.

Being the oldest in your class is 1000 x's better than being the youngest
