I had a swollen lymph node removed from my left arm pit when I was about 14. My moms arsehole cat scratched me for petting it. Damn thing was swollen for 2 weeks or so before I had surgery. To hell with cats.

Doxy covers for Bartonella. And Staph. And Pasturella. Take Doxy.

Damn. Look up fibromyalgia and Lyme disease. Bartonella (cat scratch) is pretty bad. Oh... and doctors are going to say it is all in your head.

Sure, but you still got to get the disease right. Plus I'm not telling anyone to take anything

I'm an ER doc. I'm going with the shotgun approach. It don't give a shite what you've got as long as I get you healthy. I get 2 hours and a handful of test to figure it out. Don't go to the ER for something that's been going on for 3 weeks. Go to your PCP on Monday. If you do go to the ER, you won't know if you have Cat Scratch, Pasturella, or Staph, but you'll get treated, get well and move on with your life.

Any cat wound should first be rinsed with moonshine.

Cat bites are serious - should have gone immediately to the doctor.
Had a case thirty years ago where a guy almost lost his arm over a cat bite. He was at work when a stray cat jumped up on the machine he was operating. When he tried to remove it, it bit him. He had several lengthy hospital stays over infection issues.

I was bitten 3 weeks ago. The bite caused a small red blister on the side of my index finger knuckle. I cleaned it with hibiclens right after and used triple for about 2 weeks. It never formed a pustule, just a red raised tender blister. The blister is still there, but now I have arm pit lymph node swelling. This just occurred 2 days ago. Today I started taking Cipro 500mg BiD. According to what Ive read, that seems to be an effective antibiotic.

That makes sense. Shotgun it up, ship them out. I am a med student who went through the infectious disease module about 6 months ago, so that's why I was saying get the disease right, because the answer choices on our test would include Staph, Pasturella and Bartonella as options for a case like the OPs.

I got cat scratch fever from two banty hens that I had for pets. Their claws are dirty and full of bacteria. One of the hens had scratched my hand. I developed a swollen lymph node in my upper are on the underside. The node became as big as a golfball fairly quickly...over days. I went to my doctor who identified the illness as cat scratch fever...he immediately sent me to the hospital...where for three days, I was pumped full of anti-biotics...then on the 4th day, I was operated on to remove the node. Stayed on meds for another 2 wks and then was ok. Doctors told me that if the node had burst in my arm, there was a good chance I would have died as the toxic bacteria would have traveled to my heart. Point is...go to doctor right away.

Rarely (never) do you get culture results before empiric antibiotics are initiated. It's the difference between Step 3 and real life.

Can't wait. If I have to memorize the name of one more random kinase I may go crazy. 5 more months and I'm in third year.

Bartonella is a good guess, I'd say. Potentially a bad dude. I was started on doxy but culture/sensitivity resulted in a change to trimethoprim/sulfa. Unfortunately, there is not a vaccinal response so be careful. You could still get it again.
Go see a physician to make sure you laugh about this later.

Just had to put my cat to sleep this week due to cancer. The last time I had to load her in her carrier she went absolutely ballistic on my hands - cuts and bites. What are the symptoms I should be looking for - there is a bit of swelling on my right hand with bruising, but its not hurting too much ATM.
