It's exactly what he and people like him do. They prey on the fearful, giving, and naive nature of their supporters. The scam is obvious.

can't stand the holier than thou types. At least a sinner is honest sometimes.

I met his wife once

Ozzy ripped Swaggart's lying arse in the song "Miracle Man" off of No Rest for the Wicked
quote:
I'm looking for a Miracle Man
That tells me no lies
I'm looking for a Miracle Man
Who's not in disguise
I don't know where he'll come from
And I don't know where he's been
But it's not our Jimmy Sinner
Because he's so obscene
Miracle Man got busted
Miracle Man got busted
Today I saw a Miracle Man
On TV cryin'
Such a hypocritical man
Born again, dying
He don't know where he's going
But we know just where he's been
'Twas our little Jimmy Sinner
That I saw on the screen
Miracle Man got busted
Miracle Man got busted
Miracle Man got busted
Miracle Man
A Devil with a crucifix
Brimstone and fire
He needs another carnal fix
To take him higher and higher
Now Jimmy, he got busted
With his pants down
Repent ye wretched sinner
Self righteous clown
Miracle Man got busted
Miracle Man got busted
Miracle Man got busted
Miracle Man got busted

He is also cousins with Mickey Gilley. They all are from Ferriday.
And Jimmy is the most musically talented of all of them. He can play that piano. son.

Jimmy, on the surface, in the many times I've dealt with him, is a very nice man. Not rude, not pretentious, and not what other people have claimed to know about him.
Donnie was not anything I want to even discuss.
I have been in both of their houses, in casual settings, and I have a real good impression of both of them.

Now do I disagree with some of his beliefs, yes, but his expositors Bible is extremely informative.
Btw, about his prostitute issues, he is just a man and we have a habit of failing. I know i fail everyday, I just depend on the One who didn't fail. Down vote away.
So, how much do YOU tithe?

He and Jerry Lee are the first cousins to my aunt's (late) husband. I guess I'm related to them by marriage. That's all I've got.

And I know for a fact that you are naive as shite.

You, I don't know, but it would be something to have your worst moments broadcasted.
I don't know him either, but like he pointed out, he is not someone who is making millions of dollars ranting and raving about "sin" and claiming to be an arbitrator of right and wrong.

's incredible how little you hear of him in BR. As a non native who's lived here several years I can't think of a single time I've referenced that complex aside from it simply being a point of reference. I've never encountered anyone who goes there nor heard if anyone going.
I didn't know who he was when I moved to BR for school. Always thought that shite on bluebonnet looked like Chernobyl, yet no one else seemed to notice, or just blocked it out. Always had to ask wtf that was.

Damn, some dudes defending swagger in here? Guess they have to convince themselves they haven't been conned out of their money.
Lol, a rich minister. Wonder where they get their money? Oh, chumps like these guys who are trying to "buy" their way into heaven.

know you're not replying to me, but I wasn't trying to defend the man just saying everyone screws up, so I can't judge him for that. I don't go to his church or agree with some of his beliefs. I have heard some other things that aren't so great, I do not like what goes on at that church. Just saying that I can't judge the man.
You are judging him. Better go drop another $5 into that basket to reserve your spot.

I don't know why you people are so down on Brother Swaggart.
On balance he's probably created much more good than bad, helping people get through this life and making a living from doing it. Just like everyone here. You play to your strengths and get paid.
He's also fallen further that any of us, ever could. And that's on him being a dumb arse.
But he is an interesting man with a profitable business model, selling the steps of salvation but not needing an inventory and not getting taxed. Pretty smart.

He is an incredibly charismatic and interesting person. Fantastic preacher. That is indisputable.

Jimmy is probably the most approachable out of the bunch with what persona that he puts forth in the public. Jimmy's his net worth is around 1.5 million all in the name of Jesus.
As far as being ruthless they go in this order.
1. Frances
2. Donnie
3. Jimmy
4. Gabriel (Not as bad as the others IMO yet)

Their people ended up in Ferriday after they got displaced off the small family farm by the agrarian mechanization of the 1910s & 1920s. Before tractors and combines, using horses & mules, a couple of acres of crops anually was all a farmer (and his family) could handle. In twenty years using new technology, farmer's productivity increased ten-fold. That meant prices for the commodities they produced went down and then a bunch of small farms and farmers (Swaggart, Lewis and Gilley's forebearers included) were no longer economically viable. They had to sell out or they simply walked away from mortgaged farmland and went to the towns or cities.
