See if you can get a complete physical done. At 21, you probably are in a crossroads in your young adult life. Anxiety can arise at any age. Depression and anxiety can often co-exist together in many cases.

Caffeine and high sugar intake can cause symptoms of anxiety. Panic attacks can be caused by thoughts of impending doom. Get checked out by your GP doctor.

At your age, heart disease is not likely but get screened for anxiety and see if your heart is healthy. Stress is a big factor in a young person often because the person is entering into a different phase of his/her career or life.

There are some very good mediation apps that are available for free. Listening and calming your mind and body can help you feel better. Little changes can lead to big improvements in how you deal with stress. Dietary changes can be big as well.

Live in the present day. No need to review the past. Be hopeful and open your heart to God and his wonderful purpose for your life. God bless.

It is probably acid reflux. You should speak to your doctor about Nexium.

You symptoms are a perfect match for anxiety. Just wait till you have your first full blown panic attack.

"Just wait until you have your first full blown panic attack"

I hope for his sake it doesn't get to that point because the two full blown panic attacks I had were the most uncomfortable physical sensations I've experienced. Just awful awful experiences. Mine came out of nowhere. I've dealt with anxiety and dysthymia since at least high school if not earlier. I didn't start having panic issues until my mid 30s. First episode came out of nowhere. I was actually in a giddy mood at the time standing in my living room. I suddenly got the most incredibly odd lightheaded feeling that I was about to leave my body. I then got very dizzy and felt like I was about to pass out. Sat down and my heart went from slow to racing so fast and I had no control over my heart rate. I couldn't catch my breath or slow my heart down and I started sweating. Called 911 and they said I was dehydrated. It ended up being a panic attack. The second one happened while I was at work just a few weeks later. I had to get my boss to drive me to the emergency room because I once again thought I was going to pass out. I went and got all the heart tests and they came back fine.

I have to be careful about staying hydrated and careful with alcohol and caffeine both of which can trigger panic symptoms under the right conditions. As for the chest tightness, I get that too. The suggestions of vigorous exercise are great recommendations as are the suggestions that you may have acid reflux issues. They often mimic the symptoms of heart attack although I've been told that the big difference is that heart attacks usually involve more severe crushing pain than acid reflux.

Yep. Seeing random 25 year old soccer players drop dead on the field really scares the frick out of me.

I had bad stress from work a couple years ago and had chest pain for over a week. Went in and got a work up and stress test...crushed the stress test and was told I have the heart of an astronaut

No, the lipitor counteracts all the fried chicken and bacon that I eat.

It's anxiety......dealt with it myself. In the past, I did the ER and EKG route and was fine. Physicals as well....all fine.

Just remember that you are the cause and nothing else. It's truly all in your mind.

Started experiencing tightness in my chest at about 23-24. Freaked me out. I couldn't identify what it was, but I felt like at any moment my chest was going to entirely seize up and I would have a heart attack.

Anyway, eventually got an EKG and saw the doc, nothing abnormal. Put on Nexium for a bit, not sure if that did much. Eventually it lessened, but most importantly, my doc helped me relax and that probably made a difference.

Eventually you'll be able to identify what is muscular and what isn't. I don't recommend exercising as a test, but once you get the all clear, the fact that you can exercise and be active without any additional felt strain on your heart should reinforce that it isn't a cardio issue. I never once got shortness of breath, nor did the pain/tightness increase as I was more active. Recognizing that helped me a lot.

Almost always results with a trip to the ER.

Go see a cardiologist. I used to get rapid heartbeats and tightness that I thought was anxiety. I finally gave in and went to a cardiologist to make sure it was all in my head, but turned out it was my heart after all. They found I had SVT. As I understand it, I basically have some criss-crossed wires in my heart that like to short circuit from time to time and send my heart into a rapid, sometimes irregular rhythm. Now that I know about it, there are exercises I can do when I feel it coming on to help slow it. I don't have it often enough to require medication or a procedure.

I had one incident where I was doing some yoga and it flared up. I couldn't get it under control. I called my girlfriend and told her what was going on, but I was getting light-headed and was about to pass out. I was pretty sure I was about to die as it got dark. I was like, "well, this is it. Been fun." I woke up on the floor a few minutes later. That was the last time I had an episode, and that was a few years ago. I make it a point to get my heart checked every year.

ANXIETY

I have had this crap for roughly 2 years. Dizzy, lightheaded, confused, cant accomplish 1 task because you wanna race to another.... moody as hell, snap easily, on edge...

I deal with this nearly EVERDAY of my life now. You will learn to fight it off the best you can. It is in your DNA to have this or not. You are not crazy like you feel and you are not losing control. Someone that does not have this shite has no clue what we go thru. Alcohol is self medicating and not a good idea as it raises your BP with the anxiety and can cause a stroke or heart attack.
I had the shite so bad I actually wrote a will as I cried like a baby because I knew in my mind I was a goner. Wrong! Its all in your mind.
Excessive alcohol consumption will make you have serious anxiety. As will dehydration, hunger and sleep deprivation.
Somedays getting out of bed will seem impossible because you don't wanna face the day ahead. PUSH THRU THIS PART!
You can do it without meds. I know its not as easy as just do it because that was my wife and everyone elses fix. Here are a few tips.

EXERCISE.
EAT HEALTHY.
EAT ALOT OF POTASSIUM.
DRINK WATER.

Yes. Heart issues run in my family though.

I honestly think that if I don't die in an accident of sorts, heart issues will be what ends me.

I am a lil nervous about mine, I need to get it checked and plan to as soon as I grad. I have had shooting pains in my chest right where my heart is on several occasions. I have had high BP since I was in HS and get some pretty high heart rates I do cardio, like 180+ at a medium jog. In the past 2-3 years I have developed a intolerance to stimulants, especially if I am drinking. If I am drinking and take a red bull bc I am tried there is a good chance I am going to be short of breath for awhile. Same if I have taken adderall or energy drink then work out later that day. Hopefully it is just stress/anxiety.

Energy drinks are bad for you and alcohol mixed is a disaster waiting to happen. Anxiety is it what it is. But the factor of alcohol and a stimulant like Red Bull or Monster ETC makes it 10x as bad in my opinion.
