There is about a 2.2 million application backlog.

There are some tops in this article to try to expedite the process.

I received the new passport last week. It took about 8 weeks. They still have not yet returned my old passport.

How much do private third parties like Texas Tower charge?

I had mine expidited and it took exactly 6 weeks. I tried to get an appointment at the new Orleans office but it was impossible to get one before my trip. Keep calling the number and get a live person to look up the appointments in New Orleans for an opening.

You have to have an appointment to get in the building in Nola now. They were booked up for over two months out. We had to stay on the phone for hours to even get a person on the phone to try and schedule an appointment. All of their services are delayed right now.

Yup. I've spent hours on hold and emailing. Since OP I was able to backdoor into getting a live person with NPIC and she was completely useless. She read me the information straight from the website then said good luck.

I spoke with a wonderful lady at Higgins office who is currently trying to help. Thank God.

I left a voicemail with TexasTowers but no return call yet.

I applied for mine, using expedited service option the last week of May.

I got it back just this past Friday.

What kind of emergency? 'My pregnant wife is having a baby next week and her sister is getting married in Mexico the next month" emergency, or 'My uncle is on his death bed." emergency?

They do have a special unit operating specifically for death and medical emergencies that you can get 48 hour turn around.

Everything, and I mean everything, else will be a minimum of 6 weeks now, most likely 12 weeks - using expedited service.

Normal service is minimum of 18 weeks.

Yes he will. There are private companies that can turn them around in 24 hours and overnight them to you. Even during COVID.

Source: me that used said service.

It’s expensive, but OP probably shouldn’t miss his wedding.

That 24 hours service is NOT available at this time. There are no walk-in appoints at any US Passport office -- the US State Department is still in Phase 2 covid lockdown. So all of the emergency service companies you can find have removed the 24 hour service offerings.

Source: Senator Ted Cruz's office, Senator John Cornyn's office and Representative Roger Williams office, and RushMyPassport.com (and their phone customer service reps).

Not to derail the thread from the same useless info being posted, but WTF is up with a passport delay still happening? Its literally just paperwork, these people can't get that shite done like the rest of us from home or behind closed doors? I don't understand this excuse of absurd backlogs on work that can literally be done from home.

I applied for a passport in early April at a post office. Opted for the normal delivery (not expedited) took me about 10 weeks to get it in the mail.

Applied around the same time. Still waiting.

You must go to a hub and make an appointment. You must show proof (ticket) that you need to travel within 72 hours to get help.

Having help from your congressman (person) can help.

Good luck. You will need it.

Mine and my Wife's expire in 2025. I plan on filing renewal in early 2024. We travel, and I hate disappointments.

Roger Williams office told me they usually get 10-30 requests for assistance per month. The week I called they had received over 300, in just that week alone.

Crazy times.

Use CIBT Visas. They have always helped me get visas fast when I was in a crunch.
They also do passports.

Thanks to all with the helpful replies. I still need luck on my side, but feeling better about the situation.

Lol at the rest that can’t seem to read. To reiterate, one final time, I’ve tried for weeks to get an appointment through the official website and called their 1-800 number a hundred times and you just get a busy signal after you push through the automated answering service. I’ve read the rules and procedures on the website. I promise. As mentioned, I’m now desperate. Hence, the thread looking for nontraditional advice

“reach out”.

Did they fall off the dock or out of the boat ? Just give the congressman a phone call.
