Young single mother with two little girls just got fired from her job. She is a neighbor of mine. So sad. What makes it so bad is she has nowhere to go. No family. -_- Kids are about to learn a hard lesson.

Hell I've been nervous for an entire year. It's just become part of the norm lately

A young woman with enough sense who isn't hideously ugly should be able to find some lonely generous fella to help her out.

Is that the same thing as being physically fired?

No. I've got my own to take care of. But someone with that predicament should be able to find a benefactor. Or a family to "adopt" them for Christmas

That's tough... Are you gonna do something to help her???? That would be the cool and right thing to do IMO.............

My old company just laid off 170 ppl today, after laying off 150 last month. I got a new job 2 weeks before this round of cuts and left, but a bunch of my old co-workers and friends weren't so lucky. This was in Baton Rouge btw.

If you had a job, it might be a possibility.

Oil and gas is scary right now, it has nothing to do with how good of an employee you are. This particular company just doesn't have work lined up for a few months so they shut it down until the get a few pipe jobs.

Companies do not care about employees. It's the bottom line for shareholders.
A lot are cutting at the end of the year so 2016 will be more profitable.
Sad, but true.

Firing one for performance Monday.

It is what it is. While it's not true for everyone, and I know what it is like being on the wrong end of the downsizing equation.

Sometimes if you just do a better job...you keep it. If they did a better job, we wouldn't be having that uncomfortable talk.
