It sounds terrifying and awesome at the same time. Anyone have any experience in the industry? I'm talking short term prospects. Like taking a semester off from school and hitting the seas

Only way I'm doing that is if I'm a lifeguard at one of the pools and get the after hours benefits.

You ever noticed that majority of cruise ship workers are from foreign countries?

There is a reason for that. I'm sure as an American you could find better paying jobs.

The only thing that would be worse than going a cruise would be working on one

It's not borderline slave labor. Those people are actual slaves

Read an article a while back about an American who did year on contract being a waiter. Lots of sex, drinking, but no sleep or down time. Pretty much slavery. He described it at two different teirs and worlds between the service jobs and the things such as hospitality.

Had some friends who were in their younger days in casino industry, and were sold a whole shite load of BS, about working on cruise ships as dealers, tax free money, seeing world, etc

they fricking hated it

they would always hear from people in industry, "You only have to work 6 months for a years pay" blah blah blah. It was horse shite, and none of those people who tried it ever went back, yet it was such a great gig.

Sailing as an officer isn't bad at all. You will slay because you have extra closet space in your room that is much needed by dancers, performers, etc. Not great pay.

I'm friends with the room steward from my first cruise on Facebook. He enjoys it. 8 months on, 4 months off, sends all the money back home every two weeks and he and his wife parties their arse off for four months.

Very very rare to have Americans unless you are in entertainment.
Most on the ship make the equivalent of $2.50 an hour.

Look up the book Cruise Ship Confidential and read it, you wouldn't want to do it.It's written by one of the only Americans to work in the kitchens and wait staff on carnival.

There is a reason it is all 3rd world country workers on there.

Even the musicians are usually Asian. Except for the piano guy.

4 crew to a cabin as well. That's what one of our bar guys told us.

Living in shitty quarters.

They work your arse when working. Maybe being the bartender would be cool. But those were usually decent looking Russian women. And STILL your hot Russian night bartender was made to sling coffee in the morning.
