Can they just go in and get rid of the stones and leave the gallbladder?

Nope

The gallbladder stores bile that is currently not being used by the body.

Everyone reacts differently.

Here's the deal; it's coming out at some point so just go do it.

Bile gets into your digestion track. Foods don't effect me. Like Todd said, everyone is different. If it is the GB, it will only get worse. You can either schedule to have it removed, or wait until a another attack and have it removed. If you wait, there's a chance it will be too inflamed, and they have to cut it out the old way. That is a huge scar and weeks of recovery.

Has anyone here ever had gallstones?
Yep. Painful. Felt like really bad gas cramps with nausea. The pain's different for some people. The operation was no biggie. I went in on a Thursday and felt great Friday. I know some people who had infected gall bladders and they were out for longer. Just make sure a clean rest room is near after a real fatty meal.
