re: Anyone ever suffered from gallstones/had gallbladder removed? (warning: gross)Posted by Jim Rockford on 7/1/15 at 5:23 pm to TheCaterpillar
I have gallstones. About three years ago I started getting bouts of excruciating pain in my upper right quadrant, that lasted from a few minutes to several hours. I was nearly ready to have mine out, but the episodes gradually tailed off. I still feel a twinge once in a while, but haven't had a really bad attack in over a year, knock wood. This is unusual, most of the time it gets worse instead of better, but I guess I was lucky.
ETA: The reason I was reluctant was that even with laparoscopy, it's still an incision in the abdominal wall, and I'd have to stop working out for a period of time. The recommendations were all over the place, from a few weeks to 6 months or more.

no, but I did have an effed up liver.....I slowly fixed it, by drinking aloe vera juice.
it was quite bitter to drink...it can also affect your gallbladder.
but medical doctors know drugs n surgery, not any other kind of healing of the body.
I avoid the doctors like aids herpes and vd.....and I'm not on any medications at all @ 64yo. if you got a mind to get a 2nd opinion, seek out a naturopathic physician....if that don't appeal to you.
good luck with the doc...

Wife had gall bladder surgery about a month after giving birth the first time. Bouts of horrible, fetal-position pain for about twenty minutes that were cyclic... Each cycle closer between episodes. After a few of those attacks, laparoscopic surgery stopped that shite.

How old are you? With the location of your pain and the constipation, it sounds more like diverticulitis. If you're in your 20-30's then it likely isn't this (although not impossible). But if your 40+, then this could definitely be the issue. Can be treated easily with antibiotics (Levaquin and Flagyl) and some liquid diet.
You are set up for gallstones though, with the "being overweight" (not really though) and then dropping that weight. This causes your biliary circulation to get screwed up (not absorbing as much as you need to), which results in something in the bile liquid to supersaturate out and form stones. However, this pain would be below the ribs on the right or in the middle, could radiate or primarily be in your right shoulder. Sometimes people just have mid back pain, which can be from pancreatitis due to a stone getting stuck in the duct.
If this is your gallbladder, and ultrasound will show stones and if there is inflammation. If there isn't either, then a HIDA scan will show how well the gallbladder is functioning.
But, for a male, left lower quadrant pain is usually related to the colon (diverticulitis, cancer), small intestines (bowel obstruction, etc.), and hernia. There are other less likely things, but these are the most common.

Yeah my had that. 35 weeks pregnant and had the attack. Stone blocked the duct and was causing necrotizing in her abdomen. 5 1/2 months later she got to go home from hospital. Docs gave her a 1 percent chance of survival. Had to take the baby early and he was fine. Now he's 20. Edit it to say my wife.

I had all of your symptoms except being blocked. It ended up being gluten allergy.

I had my galbladder removed 7 weeks ago tomorrow. I started with the sensation of being full and starving at the same time. That turned into a couple of sleeples painful nights and lots of burping. All the pain was upper right, just under my ribs. Had an ultra sound and hida scan a week later. Gallbladder had a 6mm polyp and it was not functioning properly. I elected to have it removed rather than wait until the polyp increased in size to 10mm.
Not a huge deal, except I basically had a partially crushed lung and could not breath. They sent me to the er thinking it was blood clots. A couple of days of breathing exercises and I was good.

Had mine removed. Didn't have stones. It just drained really slow, and would get infected, then swell up to what felt like a grapefruit. The last attack I had, I thought I was dying. Worst pain I have ever felt. I fought it for 5 years. Tried all the diets; gluten, etc. Nothing. Feel like a champ now.
ETA:
My HIDA scan was 2.6%

If you get it removed see if they will let you keep it.
My uncle had his removed and for what ever crazy fricking reason kept it. I can remember going to his house as a kid for a holiday and my cousins and I got to digging around as boys do and we found a small bottle with this jellyfish fleshy thing floating around. We got freaked out and asked my Mom wtf who then asked my uncle wtf. He said he had surgery and asked the doc if he could keep it. So my suggestion is keep it and creep your friends and family out.

May be a colon problem. My left side started hurting and wasn't sure what it was... Ended up being an infection in colon that ate through and leaked infection into my abdomen... Ended up getting about 8 inches of my colon taken out...Not fun,Plus it could be a sign of Chrones....Get a colonoscopy.......
I had never been really ill in my life...I dropped 20 lbs between December and feb..Blood pressure dropped to like 75/40..got a ct scan and found the problems..... DO NOT play around with this dude...

did any doc listen to 4 areas of your stomach, were you checked for bowel obstruction? If so and you passed. get this from walgreens or wholefoods market immediately. if it doesn't work with more laxatives then get all the GI testing.

Had mine removed a couple years ago... The pain started off as annoying and over the next month became unbearable... Felt like a fullness and tightness in my stomach, especially after eating any greasy foods. Also, chocolate would really set it off for some reason... Surgery wasn't bad, took about 45 minutes then I was in holding for an hour and then home... Couple of weeks later I was pretty much back to my normal self...

I had this or something very similar. Gall stone was the size of a fricking golf ball. I thought I was having a heart attack at first. They had to widen my incision by an inch or so to get the thing out. No problems since then except I have less of a tolerance for fried food or red sauce than I used to have.

I've been on antibiotics for 4 days with no improvement. Also, I am at the same time taking A TON of probiotics and prebiotics because antibiotics scare the shite out of me. I never, ever take them unless I physically cannot function.
I have passed everything in my colon, my primary care doc said my blood and urine is normal.
The common things that set off my pain are greasy foods, red meat, and dairy. Greasy foods being the worst. It lasts anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 hours and it feels like I'm having a cramp in my entire abdomen which radiates to my back. The main point of pain, only at the beginning, was in the bottom left quadrant, but now its seemingly everywhere.
GI doc next week so we'll see what he says. If it is indeed gallbladder issues and he gives me the option to treat or remove, I'm opting to remove ASAP. Screw this. Screw this so much. I haven't had a good nights sleep in 3 weeks.
