In the market for a new truck and I have been coming across some nice trucks that were rentals. Anyone ever bought a previous rental and have any issues?

Found a nice one here, not sure if this is a great deal though.

Have you ever rented a vehicle? If so, how did you drive it?

No I wouldn’t buy one.

Purchasing a rental vehicle would be like marrying a hooker. Yeah you got it now, but you never know who handled it before you and what type of issues it has below the surface

There's gonna be cum in your car but I guess that's probably true of any used car. With a rental it may just be a larger amount.

Check it against Kelly blue book, gives you an idea if it is a good deal.

That's true and that was my first concern, but you would think they regularly service these vehicles so they are in good shape right?

I bought a CPO Tahoe that was previously a rental. I didn’t have any issues with it.

They service and maintain them enough to keep them running. But that doesn’t stop the renters from beating the brakes off these cars.

There’s a reason why rentals are sold for cheap.

I have no qualms about buying used, but I don’t think I’d every by a rental unless I had no other choice.

I never thought it was a big deal and am currently shopping for a 4x4 suv.

Then I stumbled on this dude's youtube channel Matt's Offroad Recovery

Half of what he pulls out are rentals. Makes me second guess the notion that it's no big deal.

Not a truck, but I bought a used Ford Mustang from the Ford dealership in Natchez. Way before there were things like Carfax.

They told me it was a one owner vehicle. What they didn’t tell me was that the “one” owner was Hertz.

I worked for Hertz years ago in Boston. I would never knowingly buy any car that was a rental. Don’t do it.

The last three vehicles I've purchased (minivan, car, SUV) have all been rentals that were a year old or less and 10K miles or less.

Got them for about 40% cost of new, came with balance of warranty.

Bought all from dealerships and had an independent mechanic that I trust, check them out.

Edited to add that I got 10 years and 170K miles out of the minivan, sold it when it seemed like there were future transmission issues.

It should be fine. The vast majority of people who rent vehicles are mature adults and don’t drive them like retards and the rental company most likely keeps up with the oil changes.

Besides that, it’s got another 40k miles on the powertrain warranty if anything goes out. I’m not sure if it’s a great price though. I’d research the loan, trade-in and retail value on NADA first.

I've purchased three. One for each of my kids. All one year old with less than 20,000 miles. No problems with any of them. They are 2012, 2016, and 2019 models.

Most people don't realize when they are buying a rental, most just go to auction and are bought and put on local lots.

Bought a year old Toyota Avalon that was a former rental. No issues. Great car.

A friend works for Enterprise. She and a group of retired folks deliver "retired" rental vehicles on an almost daily basis to car dealerships in LA, AR, and TX. She's never mentioned seeing any problems with the cars, and she's been doing it for years.

Many people have probably bought them from car lots and had no idea. There are a ton of them out there.
