No, but I play one on TV.

Let's not forget, though, that I'm not the one dithering about rabies prophylaxis when there's been definite exposure to a vector. Who knows where in your house those fricking bats went before they were found in your daughter's room?

Wow, this got really negative really quick.

Hope you and your family do well and the shots don't suck too bad

Follow up: so after the treatment, are you immune to rabies? Like, can you fearless take on a rabid dog barehanded and not worry about shite? That would be cool.

I think they've all had the shots based off some of his comments.

Yeah, but I'm half fricking around and half trying to convince him to get the shots for everyone if he hasn't.

So, I'm like an a-hole hero here, really.

Look I'm sorry, but extremely pissed at my pest control company.
Of course the cost would be irrelevant for anyone of us.
As stated previously, looking to see if anyone has gone through this. It's definitely not something anyone would want to deal with, trust me.
I'm the last of us who've gone through it, wife and daughters went immediately. Can't help that I'm skeptical over the necessity of me going besides being the bread winner and the responsibility of raising /caring for my family.

Nope just an a-hole. It's really not a laughing matter at all, and to suggest even sarcastically that I need to put my daughters up for adoption isn't cool at all.

Everyone in our family is going through the shot cycle. Maybe i should've posted on the OB board .

You are being a bit testy. This is how the OT works. Did they have to give you the shot in the dick or something?

1) This is the OT. You can fricking leave at any time.
2) Are we gonna have to go to Sonic?

ETA: Nevermind about Sonic. I'll probably cut a knuckle on a tooth. I don't want to have to get rabies shots.

Correct Pearl Jam, I am testy today. Maybe I should ask admins to move to OB board...

What I will tell you is Bats are a serious concern, so if any of you have small children and find one in your house I'd highly recommend trapping the bat to avoid all this.

In the US, vaccination of domestic animals has reduced rabies cases in people to < 3/yr, mostly transmitted by infected bats. Infected raccoons, skunks, and foxes can also transmit rabies.

Because bats are an important reservoir for rabies virus in the US and because bat bites may be hard to detect, contact with a bat is an absolute indication for postexposure prophylaxis.

Not trying to be a douche but how in the heck did you get bats in your house and not notice them them until one died? Unless you are Bruce Wayne then forget everything I asked.

They're sneaky little bastards, get into your attic and become disoriented, find the draft from you attic doors and slip in.
In our case, attic door was right by our stairs which at the bottom of them was my daughters bedroom.

Bats can slip into a crack less than 3/8 of an inch...

Same here. Happened in the 70s. Got the rabies shots. Thick stuff. Big needle. Multiple shots over several weeks. They had to give them into large muscles...the thighs and buttocks. Hurt like a mother.

Several things.

One: virtually everyone who develops full blown rabies dies. There is no effective cure.

Two: post-exposure (right after a bite or possible bite) treatment is very effective; almost no one dies.

Three: bat bites are very often hard to see. You can be bitten and never see the bite.

Four: You can't test the bat you didn't catch. So waking up in a room with a bat present is reason enough to get the rabies "shots" because you don't know if the bat you see had a buddy that has now flown away.

Bottom line: if your doctor tells you to get the rabies shots, you should listen.

Post-script: I am not your doctor and the above info should not be considered medical advice in any way.

Your looking at about $1,400 each and Insurance does not cover the cost.

Man that sucks. And everyone who gets those shots ends up dying later anyways. Very tragic.

My insurance does cover them. The question is how much, but they do.
