the problem-solving abilities coupled with the communication skills that you gain in college give you one hell of an advantage over a lot of other folks in the organization and unless you have some kind of fricked up personality, you can jump over lots of folks fairly quickly...

This.

Beyond your degree and field of study, college does a whole heck of a lot more for you than just edumacate you. You learn problem solving, time management, project management, relationship building, dealing with authority (i.e. professors, fraternity elders when pledging), how to hone your writing skills, and you generally become a more "worldly" person.

Keep this in mind too: most people lie about their income. If someone volunteers information about how much they make, they are usually exaggerating.

Agreed.

People who voluntarily tell you how much they make are generally full of shite and ginning that figure up a bit.

I've also found that uneducated or undereducated people tend to share way too much information about themselves. I worked as a bank teller during college and grad school, and you wouldn't believe what people would tell me in response to the simple salutation of "how's it going."

It can be true depending on what they do and what you go to college for. The best chance for a good bit of people in this area to reach $100,000/year is becoming an operator. Now they work a lot of overtime and shift work, but they can reach $100,000 relatively soon at a plant.

I have friends that tease me for having a degree.

"Oh, she thinks she's so smart because she went to college!"

It's strange.

A winner is gonna win no matter what.

He/She will win faster with a degree.

I wouldn't recommend doing it the way I did it;
hard work, no fear, natural skills honed with acquired skills and some lucky breaks.

A degree might've made it easier.
Still, never underestimate how far you can get just by outworking the other guy.

I cannot understand why we have weekly threads hating on college. I thought we had smart people on this board?

Top performers will outperform, regardless. Making 100k at a plant is not outperforming. Making 250k+ is. One of those is expoentiatlly easier with a college degree.

never said it wasnt....They get the hate because they come on here bragging about the 100k when they have to work 80 hours a week to get it.

No. You have to prove you can code, design, etc. Honestly the coding done in schools is shite. You can learn more and better coding on YouTube and forums. You can purchase subscriptions at 1/1000 the cost of a degree that will teach you more in a few months than you'll learn in college. We won't hire directly out of college simply because they went to college. We don't care. If you can code and you can fit into our culture, you'll be hired.
