re: Best way to invest $60,000? - raw dog
FYI I said take a nice trip AND buy yourself some nice things that will last. Key words "will last". Suits, furniture, anything that you do as a hobby, etc. Things you would buy at some point regardless, might as well buy them nice and have them for a long time....

re: Best way to invest $60,000? - raw dog
Mid-twenties no debt, "take an incredible vacation and buy yourself some nice things that will last" is the only answer here. Then worry about the 50k you have left. I'd just layer it into some index ETFs over time and take your hands off the wheel....

re: do you feel better than others because you have a lot of $ - raw dog
“I wanted to be a somebody in the eyes of myself and others,” he wrote. “But most of all, I wanted money. Why? Because money is freedom. Money means I can wear what I want, live where I want, go where I want, eat what I want, be who I want. Money would make me happy. Right?” Wrong. He explained: ...

re: Retail banking and bankers? - raw dog
[quote]What actually blows my mind the most about retail banking and mortgages is the fact that I've been approved in less than 30 minutes for car loans from 3rd party companies like woodside credit who finances exotic cars and those loans exceed the cost of a home mortgage yet a home mortgage takes...

re: So why doesn't Berkshire split? - raw dog
Thought the reason was just to bifurcate voting rights. But any real institutional money has no problem with $200,000+ a share, and these are the investors that would cause trouble in any voting matter vs. the individual retail investor who usually just votes with management/proxy firms. ...

re: Breakfast interview - raw dog
[quote]Nope, nope, nope. This is how you properly prepare for interviews and I speak from personal experience within this industry. You can be cool, be smart, AND be prepared at the same time. Try to be Mr. Cool by not wearing a suit and watch him show up in a suit (now you feel underdressed) and th...

[quote]Bring your resume and bring a pen with something to write on. If you have questions (which you should have several prepared to ask) you're going to want something to write on incase you need to write his answers down. - This shows you're interested and serious about the job, also you may not ...

re: Breakfast interview - raw dog
It's not in NYC. It's summer. Don't wear a suit. Wear a jacket, lose the tie. He won't even remember what you wore. Other than that, be prepared with good, genuine questions that you come up with yourself. You might not even use these questions, but in case of awkward silence. Just have a c...

re: US bond yields could soon go negative. Please explain. - raw dog
More so about the cost of banks saving money. Provides incentive for banks to loan money out, thus boosting the economy, rather than saving at a negative rate. So in practice, should translate to cheaper money for businesses and households, driving demand for loans. History tends to show t...

re: I've been given $100K from an estate - Pay down mortgage, get new car, other? - raw dog
[quote]If he'd inherited a sum large enough to pay off the house outright & leave a decent cushion, I'd agree with you. But he would simply be cutting his mortgage in half, and unless he refinances, he's still got the same monthly payment in the immediate future. He'll just be paying off the loan mo...

re: I've been given $100K from an estate - Pay down mortgage, get new car, other? - raw dog
Will most likely get push back, but I would pay down the house. Feel like there's some significant intangible value in owning your house 100%, or having little to no mortgage payments each month. ...
