No. He is a retired veteran with unmedicated bipolar disorder. Other people have tried to get him to help himself, but have been unable and just walked away from him.

Good for you for trying to help and not walk away. It is ultimately his decision. I hope that he can get the help that he needs.

Sounds like you should go and frick. him. up. Then, call the police. Keep the messages. Get a Restraining Order in the meantime.

Even writing this makes me sad.
Very sorry to hear this. I don't have as close of a relationship with this person as you do with your sister. It just sucks that you try to do something to help them, but they view it as an attack and threaten you when you were trying to help prevent someone from committing suicide.

This person needs involuntary commitment. Figure out how to get it accomplished where you live.

You need to call the police immediately. Save the texts and let them know about the pills and the trip to University.
