Really sad story. I'll be that she's very attractive physically, especially when younger.

I wonder why the medical profession can't figure this stuff out by now? The human mind is really mysterious.

You cannot commit or force someone to a mental Heath center, only a hospital. They should not have let him out.

Well the doctors at University thought otherwise. Or he was just enough of a smooth talker and told them what they wanted to hear.

Anyone on the OT ever try to help a suicidal friend by calling the EMS on them only to have it come back and bite you?

Short version: Mutual friend of mine tried to OD on pills Monday, and failed. Went to his house Tuesday, distracted him and took his handgun he had sitting on his sofa. He went ballistic and started hitting himself. Called the EMS, and they took him to University. Hospital let him out after one day. Now is sending harassing text messages to my wife and I saying he is going to string me up and eat my heart. Also threatening to show up at my work(basically dared me to come to work today.) I can now understand why people are cold and uncaring. Maybe I should have just not gotten involved and just let him do what he wants to do.

Did you even bother reading his post?

That's what I meant. The hospital should not have let him leave after one day, they should have sent him to a mental health/behavioral center and then I think the parish coroner get's to make the call on when they are released.

I've posted this before, I work fire/ems. Had a schizophrenic shoot herself with a shotgun right in front me.

That memory must be etched in your brain forever. How did you get past it?

My father, with no emotion whatsoever, calmly picked her up and carried her to the shower. He put her in the shower and turned on the cold water.

He then walked out of the bathroom and told my mother to take us to our grandparents.

He took my sister to the hospital.

No wonder why you are numb to it. That must have been very traumatic at a young age.

That is what I thought. I thought it was at least a minimum of 72 hours of lockdown before release. Why that let him out after 1 day has me puzzled?

You don't. You will never forget something like that.

Of course you move on, but you never forget.

So true. Its amazing how your mind can put up walls to block out/obscure traumatic memories.

University probably didn't give a shite. He got sent there for taking too many pills and is an adult. He was behaving erratically or saying shite like he was going to kill himself or everyone there they really wouldn't be able to do much based on the word of a friend. They aren't equipped to give a shite about attempted suicides. They would ship him off to West Jeff.

We still worked her. Wasn't much time to react, we were concerned about her shooting us when she opened door. Asked her to put gun down and she somehow put a big shotgun on herself and it was slow mo. It of course is etched in my mind. Not really sure on getting past it, I guess time helps overall.

It sounds worse than if she was dying with a brain tumor, especially since, as you say, she's been suffering with this mental illness for decades. Horrible thing to do, compare this patient to a brain tumor patient.

I'm sure she's been evaluated to rule out something like a physical problem with her brain.

There has to be reasonable belief the he could harm himself or others. If he just showed up od'ing on pills that's all they focused on. University isn't equipped to house people like him. He would have to be acting up to get the police to restrain him then request a doctor to PEC him.
