Also did a drive from Portland to Eugene, Crater Lake, Bend, Mt. Hood, and back to Portland, OR. Just amazing scenery the entire length of the trip. My favorite part of that was driving up to Mt. Hood Timberline Lodge. I mean you're at the base of a frickin Stratovolcano!

Best road trip/vacation I've been on was 2+ months of driving/ferrying around SE Alaska in Rogers neck of the woods. Hands down, best trip ever.

I've driven from BR to NYC and also from BR to Seattle. The trip to PNW I was hauling arse the whole way so I didn't have time to really appreciate it.

I did however take the California Zephyr from Chicago to Oakland which was pretty awesome. It goes through Denver, SLC, Reno, and then through the Sierra Nevadas which was awesome. The train has an observation cart which has nice views.

My cousin did a huge U.S. road trip over one summer. He and a few buddies started in NOLA and headed to L.A, then turned north up to Seattle. After reaching Seattle, they drove east to Wisconsin and then back down to NOLA.

He told me it was a blast. They hit up 5 or 6 different MLB stadiums and did Vegas for a night or two among other stops along the way.

We did it every summer when I was a kid. Always went west, never east. Went to Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, Jackson Hole twice. The longest trip we made was to Banff. We were gone about three weeks on that trip. We'd stay off the interstates as much as possible, tried to avoid chain restaurants/motels, and always stopped at historical markers. Saw some amazing things.

I took a motorcycle trip out west a few years back, and it was life changing. Went by myself. 13 days and 6500 miles and camped out in a tent almost every night. La, Amarillo, Taos NM, Durango, Moab UT, Escalante UT, Las Vegas, San Luis Opisbo CA, San Fran, Ft. Bragg, Snake River, Lolo Pass, Yellowstone, Denver, Salada CO, and back home. Being alone on the road was great.

I went on a smaller trip the next year with a buddy, and it wasn't nearly as good as going it alone.

I like to drive six to eight hours tops. Try to plan things so you can see things that interest you. I like to read up on places I am going so I do not waste time wandering around a city or country wasting time.

Badlands at sunrise/sunset are incredible.

I might be packing up and going from Memphis to Portland in a Penske truck this summer. It will be a one way trip if it happens.

The prettiest drive I've had was the sunset highway in Oregon.

In college one year we scored student tickets for the Final Four in San Antonio. Only catch was we had to pick up the tickets at the Alamo Dome. We figured we'd make a road trip, pick up some cash, party a bit, and be back to campus for the championship game Monday night.

Two cars and 8 guys left Chapel Hill around 4pm Thursday, drove straight through rotating drivers and passing blunts. I got the shite end of the stick driving through Houston during morning rush hour and no sleep. We get to the Alamo Dome, pick up our ticket packs and immediately sell them to a scalper. We took our $1200 each and went to the River Walk for a steak dinner and beers.

After a few hours we hit the road for New Orleans, figuring that it was good luck to watch the Saturday games there since the Tarheels won two championships in that great city. Spend the day drinking and having a great time until the Tarheels lose to Utah. Console ourselves with overpriced shitty cocaine purchased from a stranger and strippers in the quarter.

Long drive back on Sunday.

One of the most irresponsible and memorable 72 hour stretch during the college years.

I moved to WA for a short stint 5 years ago and drove through Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and Utah. Colorado was dark so didn't see much. Wyoming looked like some crazy outback shite and Montana lives up to its name Big Sky. The vistas up there are insane. Driving through southeastern Utah and seeing the rock formations is incredible. That section of the country is like nothing else.

That is awesome you get to spend the time and experience all that with your dad, it will be the trip of a lifetime.

Drove from Virginia to Lake Charles, then Lake Charles to WA State during a military change of station. My family and I enjoyed seeing the mountains out west.

Love a good road trip. Wish I would've done a long one with friends in college. Driven from louisiana to California twice, Montana once and Colorado once. Always a pleasure seeing the scenery change, but never drug the trip out for more than a few days like I'd like to.

Last summer I went on a solo road trip around the southeast to Chattanooga, nantahala, Asheville, mammoth caves and nashville. Great trip.

Been on road trips but now prefer to fly to a major city, rent a car and do a "regional road trip" then fly back home. Yes, , southern Utah and northern California area are very beautiful.

Me and my family used to go on 2.5 half month long road trips every summer for vacation.

I've been to every state except the very upper NE US and Alaska/Hawaii.

We mostly would spend the trip out west.

We would do this with 2 adults and 3 kids in a Mercury Sable

I've driven out to California several times, I've driven to Chicago, did a road trip with the family to Yellowstone then up to Calgary, driven to the DC area a few times, did Chicago to Boston then back to BR once, all over the Southeast, Colorado, drove to Montana and back last summer for my wedding.

I've driven pretty much everywhere in the lower 48 but the far NW (flown to Washington several times though), the northern part of the Midwest (Minn., Wisc., Mich.) and the far NE (Ver., NH, Maine).

Drove from Chicago to LA once. Great trip with the wife and kids. Passed st louis, Grand Canyon, spent some time with some family out west (r.i.p. aunt Edna). Capped it off with a trip to an amusement park. Even got to meet the owner!
