I know there's a big green grasshopper thing that most people call katydids, but my grandma never referred to cidadas as cicadas. Just katydids. She was a poor from Sicily Island, though.

Grasshopper is a grasshopper.

Cicada is fancy name for locust.

Cicada is a cicada. Locust is the name for grasshoppers when they form large groups and wipe out crops. Locusts are grasshoppers, but not all grasshoppers are locusts.

Yep, this is how they were referenced when I was growing up and I don't really know anyone who calls them cicadas or katydids.

one of the morons on The View, Sunny Hostin, called cicadas, ci-kah-das and the others had to tell her it's ci-KAY-das. Maybe she was thinking about enchilADAs or something.

People are fricking strange, I know that’s rhetorical, but we’ve evidently nurtured a cottage industry in Mo. this summer of bookings for people coming to witness the cicada bloom.
“That’ll be $195.00 a night, but here’s your memorialized “cicada towel” to dig the ear-splitting horde out of your car grill and off your tires.

=

The loud droning noise of insanity. We’re expecting 500 million to a billion alone this summer in Mo.
Bait will be at an all-time low this summer.

She also tried to say that the super hatch, or whatever they're calling it, is caused by climate change. That ignorant twat shouldn't even be taking orders at Burger King much less talking to people on national television.

Katydids/locust/cicadas are all different.

It’s like eating roast and calling it steak. Sure it’s beef but it’s not a steak
