Got a cheap little Elite Orion drone. Had a 720p camera on it. It's fun to fly...much better than the 50 dollar walmart drone I had before.

I had to lead a drone film crew around downtown Atlanta last week. The two dudes are contracted by the corporation I work for to travel across the U.S. and film aerial snippets of major projects we have been involved with. Mainly high rises recently completed or nearing completion. They had a very high dollar drone and had that thing going up above and in between 30-40 story buildings. All I had to do was identify some good projects and get them from place to place. Looking forward to seeing the footage when it hits the website.

Basically, my question is, if you don't have a cell signal, are you SOL?

I'm still in the learning phase so not certain but I think you need at least a 3G signal.

Everybody has to register their drone.

You need a Remote Pilots License (Part 107 Cetification) if you use it for commercial purposes, which includes for-hire activities (cash or in-kind compensation) or if you use it for the benefit of your business (construction companies, real estate agents, etc).

Bought my son two for Christmas. A Parrot Micro drone that uses an app for a controller. $35 at Lowe's which was a great price. And a Hubsan h502e. Pretty much the cheapest drone you can get with GPS. Nothing fancy but with GPS when you let off the sticks it holds its position even with a pretty good wind blowing.

Wife got me a Propel Cloud Force. Surprisingly good video feed to phone.

Slightly windy yesterday, chunked in in the neighbors backyard and in-laws roof before getting a decent flight in.

It looks like you can buy a 4 pk of batteries on ebay for about $12

lol yes. My dad got me a cheap FPV drone and my mother in law got me a cheap inside drone. I already have two FAA registered racing drones and two other little drones.

I can't fly the racing ones by my house so the other ones are nice to have,

All these dickweeds buying them for kids are going to get more regulation for us when they crash them into people or other things flying illegally unfortunately.

Doubt most of them register or even look at an AirMap to see if they can fly without calling the local airports/heliports or in flight restricted areas.

Define terrible

About 10 mins after an hour charging

10minutes is great. Racing drones get 2-3 minutes and the batteries are so dangerous that they overheat and burn up at an extremely high rate, so you have to charge them outside and keep sand handy.

I think the airport rule is BS if you have a small drone and keep it below 400 feet. If I hit a plane over my house at 400 feet it's the pilots fault for being so damn low over my neighborhood. Though if I were in a landing path I could see why they would be banned.

The radius rule sucks.
