I agree with Pettifogger. Stay away from the German cars. They are a nightmare of costs if you are out of warranty. Go with the Lexus, Infiniti, Acura.

This is perfect advice for people who don't care what they drive and just want a smooth ride and cool gadgets. German cars are superior if you are critical about handling and engineering in general.

Why in hell would get a ten year old BMW? If you want a small SUV get a honda.

Why would you not get a 10 yr old BMW? I've had a 20 year old one and I have a 5 year old one now. I'll own it when it's ten years old. People act like vehicles shouldn't have upkeep. It's a mechanical device with consumables that need to be serviced and replaced. It's more expensive to replace those consumables because they are better. Not a hard concept. If you maintain it will drive great forever. Or you could buy a POS and throw it away after 7 years, but again that one always drove like shite.

The problem buying used (from someone you don't know) is you don't know how the car was treated before you bought it.

I also agree. Mine is a 04 and now after all of this its still in great form. I would rather my awesome handling vehicle than a beater fir maintenance. It is slightly more expensive for upkeep but the returns are far superior.

We've had bmw's in the family since 99 and they have been fantastic all the time.

Oh I agree. BMW does strange things from dealer to dealer as well. I had one dealer looking on eBay and at auctions to find me what I wanted, and when I showed them the perfect car located at another dealer they said they couldn't get it. I had to get it on my own. So, you can search their BMW USA site for CPOed vehicles but can't go to your local dealer and have them get it for you. I wanted one that was still under the dealer service agreement with records of all transactions. Not easy to get on auction cars.

]Mine will stay completely stock for its lifetime. I absolutely love the look of a pristinely maintained old German car that's completely stock. I think sport packages look great new, but I find they age worse than stock.

Debadging is a Euro option from the factory, so I did that. Funny enough I plasti dipped the trunk lock, but it has since come off from washing. I liked the look better dipped though. You can't even really see the lock.

The handling on the newer models is much better. I had an '04 but had to upgrade. The doors and window carriers on the X5's suck - you'll have to replace them.

What is your price range?
