MRI doesn't use radiation. CT does. Big difference, you're good.

Ahh... my bad I was going to put just the CT stuff, but I figured people would enjoy my laundry list.

Yes. Several. Abdomen.

Enjoy the injectable contrast.. Leaves a metal taste in your mouth and you think your throat is closing up. Sucks

How about doing the PET then doing the CT afterwords. Pet got sit in room for 1 hr to let the stuff they inject with you settle and sit on a table still for 45 minutes.

CT is a joke you can drink the barium and they insert the barium in your guess where are. Basically if your are local you are in and out in a few minutes. MD Anderson like had 3:00 pm appt and at times they were so backed up you would not get done until 8:00 pm at night.

When I went there I always tried to get an early appt before CT stations got backed up.

Yeah, but it takes 45 fricking minutes and is annoying as hell. They should put a little TV with reruns of Baywatch instead of those tiny arse mirrors.

I have fallen asleep a couple of times in them, and had to start all over since I was twitching from REM sleep

Didn't know there were two of us old farts here -

I had CT scan Tuesday - have them every 3 months - top of head to pelvis.

For the OP = Nothing to fear - Some discomfort when they inject the contrast solution (contains iodine I think) Feels like you are radiating heat from the inside.

I remember my first one several years ago - they ask you to hold you breath before you are passed thru the donut. I took a deep breath and held it - with my eyes closed. I opened thems about half way thru and right in from of my eyes was a little smiley :) face with its cheeks all puffed out. It was all I could do to smother the giggle factor and mess up the test.

Had two at age 33. Was changing bushings in a tractor and piece of metal went through my eye. The metal is still lodged in my optic nerve so I will never be able to get an MRI. The first one they had me hopped up on morphine so I didn't feel anything. The second one like others have said the dye injection is the worst part but it's not that bad.

That was a while back or it was a shitty scanner. I do PET scans and they should take 25 mins max.

Appendix. Radiologist walked in and said "it's the most ready to take out appendix I have ever seen."
It was fully ruptured.

That contrast dye sucks. My right testicle felt like it was burning and 7 weeks after the study I still think the damn thing droops. I don't have the discomfort I did early on, though. Two ultrasounds and multiple urologist visits later and they didn't find anything out of the ordinary. Maybe it was coincidence, but I still blame the contrast. Anyone else feel the same thing?

I had my last couple epidurals in my back done under CT scan - the latest and greatest method for epidurals. It was pretty cool - they keep repositioning the needle and sliding you back in the CT to check it out. The doc uses what looks like a '90s video game joystick for the controls and you can watch it all on screen.

I did. The tech had me sitting in a rolling chair to inject the die. I ended up passing out and fling out of the chair which caused me to hit my head on a brick wall. If you get injected with that die, make sure you laying down.
