I'm not quite what hat "wet shave" means. If it means just water it's sounds uncomfortable at the least.

As long as my razor is sharp,it's fine.

Used to use Noxzema Shaving Creme but have switched to Gillette.

It's got a smell that takes me back to watching my Dad shave when I was a kid.

For those of you who might be interested in a more custom brush or handle, check out Leo Frilot on the web. He's local (BR) and turns handles and brushes. Not cheap, but does some nice work.

So I was looking at the Merkur razors...how the hell do I pick one? There seems to be 20+ different models.

You got me. I've looked in to upgrading over my starter kit, but the options seem pretty much infinite.

If you're looking for a first DE razor, stick with the 34C.

Not sure what the upgrade would be from, but if its from something like you would pick up in a Walmart or Walgreen's, see the above advice also.

Amazon is where I got my start....Art of Shaving has a store in Nashville, so I tried out a couple of their soaps, pre shave oils and aftershave balms....it was just an experiment. I'm learning more and more...

Most of the stuff for me will have to be web-ordered....I wish there was some old school pharmacies like Paragon Drugs used to be in Lake Charles or Sulphur that I could find this kind of stuff at in N. Alabama...but there's none.

Big box stores and current pharmacies barely carry much any more.

FWIW...I love my 34C....weight is good, balance feels good. It can get slippery sometimes when I go to rotate the handle to swap sides of the blade...but I have nerve damage in my hand so it's hard to feel sometimes.

I did find out though...a mirror installed in my shower is the best way to go....lots of moisture helps the shave. A hot wet towel at your sink is good...but shaving in the shower is where it's at.

my wife and I share a razor. We don't overcomplicate things. Plus, I have a full beard so I only shave just below my jawline and a neat edge on my cheeks.

Never got into the oils and stuff. Just the Prosaro soap after a shower. Works every time.

Any of you Louisiana baws (damn, can't believe I'm using baw) know of places in New Orleans that carry various accessories.

Google gets us Aidan Gill, which now has two locations, and there's an Art of Shaving store that opened in 2014 at 624 Canal Street. I've looked at Aidan Gill's stuff on their website and the brushes START at $90.00 I like their razor handles also, but they are built for Gillette Mach III.

Lots of stuff online, I know, but I'd like to see and touch.
Thanks.

at home, I shave in the shower and use a Gilette Fusion with whatever bath soap that's there. I'm old enough where I started out with a conventional safety razor...no way I'd go back to a single blade simply because of my skin...

Do you know where the frick your buttress is? If not, I suggest you find it before moving to third form.

Well guys, (most of) my supplies came in yesterday. Got my Merkur, Proraso green soap, and my badger brush. Nervous as hell - since I always bleed when shaving my neck - I still decided to give my first wet shave a shot tonight while the wife watched Mariah Carey bomb on TV. All I can say is wow...That shite is so smooth I couldn't believe it was even cutting. One little nick is all I ended up with, so not bad.

This time was so smooth an easy, I can't wait til I actually get used to it. Hope the newness doesn't wear off too soon. I actually enjoyed shaving. Thanks for the recommendations. Glad I decided to lurk this thread the other day.

Just let the weight of the razor to the work, don't add any pressure and you'll never have to worry about nicks/cuts. If you get burns easily buy an alum bar.

I did until I had a kid and started losing sleep. The morning that I took a chunk out of a nostril with a feather blade and was 45 min late to work waiting on it to stop bleeding was the day I got on amazon and bought a Braun electric.
