Any 2007 BMW 530i drivers in here? Have a few questions for you.

Unfortunately, with a child on the way and commuting 110 miles round trip to school next semester, keeping my Challenger RT is just illogical at this point. My note isn't really horribly but insurance and gas are going to eat me alive(almost 300 a month in fuel costs alone, even with the prices dropping, premium is still over 3.00 a gallon), so I've been looking for a used vehicle to hop in for the time being. Found an 07 530i for a good price. Thinking about jumping on it today. I have a few questions about reliability in it tho. Who here has one, how many miles, and what repairs have you had? What mileage does a BMW go to shite? I'll be putting at the very least 400 miles a week on it between school and work.

Can't answer your questions so it may be a useless post, but I would recommend domestic cars. Generally cheaper upkeep and will probably be cheaper to start with.

With a job, a woman, and a kid coming you got a lot of good going for you, if you make the best of it.

Might have to drop to a less cool ride for now man.

The cost to maintain that BMW is going to make you cry if you are trying to save money on gas. Double or triple the price of normal things such as oil changes.

I've got a diesel VW for commuting. I'm in Houston and can have a 30 mile each way trip some days. It's awesome to get the 40+ MPG, but it sure sucks when you take it in for scheduled service and it's $600+ bucks.

Be nice if you could find one in a six speed so you don't have to worry about the automatic breaking. You can do cool things with an 07, like upgrade all of the lights to the LCI versions like are on my 09. You can buy led kits for the interior and that really looks nice.

ETA: They don't go to shite.

That you think a going-on eight year old 5 series BMW is an answer to your problem.

You definitely need to rethink a BMW if long term money is an issue. It wll break down on you, and when it breaks down it won't be cheap to fix even if you DIY. Insurance is going to be very high as well. Gas mileage will be average.

Find a Lexus ES 350. Or better yet, a 2011 Camry.

Stop borrowing money to buy irrational cars - the depreciation and interest on a depreciating asset are kicking your arse more than gas mileage and insurance, combined.

You have to use premium?

ETA: And buying that car would be one of the worst decisions you ever make.

the manual says she can use 89, but when I use 89, I get the dreaded "hemi tick". When I use 93, I don't. So I just use premium.

You won't ever want to own an American car again. E60s are great cars.

Right until he gets his first service bill. Did you even read the OP's situation? This would be a monumentally stupid decision.

I'd be scared of the transmission, outside of that it's not super expensive to upkeep. I say that...I haven't brought ours in a while so no telling how much it'll cost next time. I get the A service, so I have them aggressively up keeping it.

So you're trying to save money and you think an 8 year old BMW is the answer?
